The Mimms Museum of Technology and Art recently marked a milestone with two unforgettable events celebrating the debut of its newest exhibition, iNSPIRE: 50 Years of Innovation from Apple. From a private reunion with early Apple pioneers to the sold-out BYTE26 fundraiser, the celebration offered a rare chance to experience history both remembered and still in the making.
The evening before the fundraiser, the museum hosted a private reunion and tour for several members of Apple’s earliest team inside the new space. Among the guests were Randy Wigginton, early Apple employee number six who joined the company in 1976 and worked on the Apple II and original Macintosh; Chris Espinosa, employee number eight and one of the company’s first employees, who began working with Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976; George Crow, an early Apple engineer who was part of the original Macintosh development team; and Daniel Kottke, employee number twelve, who joined in 1977 and helped assemble and test some of Apple’s earliest computers. Also present was Ron Wayne, one of Apple’s three co-founders alongside Jobs and Wozniak. Several shared that the exhibition brought back powerful memories and was one of the best Apple collections they had ever seen.
Guests later filled the museum for BYTE26, the annual fundraiser, where attendees enjoyed an evening of dinner, dancing, and a lively auction while getting the first official look at the exhibition. FOX 5’s Paul Milliken served as emcee for the night. Former Apple CEO Gil Amelio received the Tech Catalyst Award, and Randy Wigginton was presented with the Heatherington Award for Technological Innovation, with both men also inducted into the Mimms Museum Hall of Fame.
Now open to the public, iNSPIRE: 50 Years of Innovation from Apple offers visitors a powerful look at the people, ideas, and risks that helped shape the digital age.
