Ogden Clinic's Community Commitment

Decades of leadership and a physician-focused approach drive growth and expand local primary care access.

Driven by Community: How Ogden Clinic Grew with a Patient-First Mindset

For Kevin Porter, CEO of Ogden Clinic, a planned short stay turned into a decades-long commitment. Joining the clinic in 2003 as a Practice Administrator, Porter stepped into the top role in 2017. He attributes his longevity to the physicians, describing them as "so kind and really having the best interest of the patients at heart." This commitment to patients, employees, and providers is the foundational principle behind the clinic's remarkable growth—from a single building to nearly 30, serving the corridor from Logan to Bountiful.

The clinic's current success is rooted in a single pivotal decision made in the 1990s: switching back to a physician-owned facility. This structure is enshrined in their mission statement, which was updated in 2000: "To be the place of choice for patients, employees, and providers by remaining a thriving, independent, physician-owned multi-specialty group practice."

Strategic Expansion: Bringing Care Closer to Home

Under Porter's leadership and influence, a critical assessment of community needs led to a transformative strategy: placing primary care locations where patients live. Porter emphasized that the Board of Directors, which is composed entirely of physicians, recognized the importance of branching out and becoming a genuine part of the community.

"It was essential to the Board of Directors, physicians within Ogden Clinic, and me that the Clinic deemed it necessary to answer a need of the community—to become part of the community and their culture."

This focus on accessibility is what Porter believes truly differentiates Ogden Clinic from others. While they support traditional community initiatives—donating to local schools and races—the sheer number of primary care locations helps eliminate significant travel barriers for patients seeking essential care. This need entirely dictates the organization's commitment to growth; they continually monitor and assess communities to ensure their expansion provides a genuine service.

Cultivating Careers: Valuing Every Employee's Journey

Patient care at Ogden Clinic is paramount. Kevin believes exceptional patient care starts with supporting employees. Porter adopts a philosophy of meeting employees where they are, recognizing that not everyone is seeking a permanent career home. "We are part of their journey, whether it is for many years or for a brief time," he says.

Whether an individual is seeking a lifelong career or a stepping stone to a new opportunity, the clinic is focused on helping them grow and reach their potential. This commitment to fostering personal and professional development ensures the workforce remains engaged, knowledgeable, and dedicated to the mission. The goal, ultimately, is to provide a service that patients trust throughout the Ogden Clinic system—their provider, their employees, and the organization itself.

Integrity and Innovation from the Top Down

The final piece of the mission focuses on the providers, who are expected to embody the clinic's core values: Excellence, Compassion, Integrity, Leadership, Innovation, Dedication, Communication, and Unity.

This spirit of service extends beyond the exam room. Porter highlights physicians like Dr. Mike Hall, who created the popular "Ortho Cup." This event quickly became a much-anticipated gathering, held every spring (this year in St. George), with all proceeds dedicated to local scholarships and medical costs. It is a testament to the fact that the physicians' desire to give back and their core values are integral to Ogden Clinic's identity.

Kevin Porter's enduring tenure and the clinic's continuous evolution underscore a simple yet powerful formula for success in healthcare: prioritize the patient, empower the employee, and be led by compassionate, community-focused physicians. This model ensures that as Ogden Clinic continues to grow, it does so with trust and accessibility at its core.
