When the Ogden Golf & Country Club was founded in 1914, the world was a different place. Horse-drawn carriages still rattled down Washington Boulevard, and the Wasatch Mountains were silent witnesses to a town on the verge of modern growth. Against this backdrop, a group of visionaries carved out a stretch of green at the base of the hills—a quiet haven where the game of golf could take root in northern Utah. Built on former farmland, the course was modest at first: nine holes winding through open fields marked by hand-dug bunkers and natural creeks. Yet, from the beginning, there was a sense that this was more than just a golf course. It was a meeting ground where businessmen and ranchers, schoolteachers, and soldiers could come together, connected by a shared love for a Scottish game far from its birthplace.
By the 1920s, the Club had expanded to a full 18-hole course, boasting lush fairways and a rustic clubhouse that quickly became the heart of Ogden's social scene. Dances, fundraisers, and town meetings filled the rooms as often as post-round toasts. During the hard years of the Great Depression, the Club endured thanks to the stubborn loyalty of its members, who mowed fairways by hand and patched up the clubhouse roof themselves when funds ran low. As the decades passed, Ogden Golf & Country Club grew in prestige and character. It hosted statewide tournaments, drew players from across the West, and served as a training ground for generations of junior golfers. Some members even went on to national competitions, carrying the careful lessons learned under Ogden's towering cottonwoods.
Today, the Club offers far more than just golf. General Manager Lon Hanson put it: "Great culture is here. The Club offers many amenities besides golf." His words reflect the spirit that has defined Ogden Golf & Country Club for over a century—a commitment to community, family, and creating an environment where everyone feels at home. From tennis courts and a swimming pool to fine dining and vibrant social events, the Club continues to blend tradition with a modern sense of hospitality.
Excitingly, the next chapter in the Club's story is already underway. For the next three years, Ogden Golf & Country Club will host a stop on the prestigious Korn Ferry Tour, the developmental tour for the PGA. This opportunity will not only showcase the course's beauty and challenge to a national audience, but it will also bring significant benefits to the local community. Increased tourism, economic boosts to local businesses, and a chance for young golfers to see future PGA stars up close are just a few ways Ogden will thrive from this partnership. It marks a proud moment in the Club's long legacy—connecting the small-town spirit of Ogden to the bright lights of the professional golf world.
Through two World Wars, a dozen economic cycles, and the sweeping changes of the late 20th century, Ogden Golf & Country Club has stood steady. Upgrades came—sprinkler systems, renovated greens, a modernized clubhouse—but always to preserve the place's soul. The course remains a tribute to classic golf design: challenging but fair, rooted in the natural beauty of northern Utah. In an age when so much feels fleeting, Ogden Golf & Country Club endures—a green thread tying generations together, where history, community, and new dreams continue to meet under the vast Wasatch sky.
"Guests love it. It's a full-service club with rich history since 1914."
