Jewels Burdick was nearly 40 when she discovered her life’s purpose. After Burdick's mom had a significant health scare, she began rethinking the products she was using and wanted to make a switch to natural skin care products. Her search led to a dead end, and she struggled to find any affordable products that she liked that would work in the harsh, Colorado climate.
After doing her own extensive reading and research, she realized she could make her own products that were clean and full of natural ingredients. She started making skin care products with plant-based ingredients. It transformed her skin, and friends and family took notice and started asking to buy some for themselves.
Simple Skincare
In 2012, Burdick opened her own store: Simple Body. The name reflects her desire to make skin care simple for everyone. Eventually, Simple Body outgrew the original store space and in August of 2020, she moved into her current, larger location in Old Colorado City at 2520 West Colorado Avenue. Store staff welcomes customers in and take a genuine interest in listening to customers’ concerns and helping them find the right solutions. The products are clean, affordable, and made in-house or sourced from other women-owned businesses.
“I love helping people," Burdick says. "I feel like that is my true purpose in life. My goal is to give them confidence in their own skin and to help them feel and look their best.”
As business continues to grow, Simple Body keeps offering new products inspired by customers. They offer free in-store skin care consultations, and those conversations inspire Burdick to create new products.
Later this year, they will be launching seven new products. The first line of botanical skin tonics include formulas to help with aging, exfoliating, and sensitive skin. The second line of high-performance serums contain many natural, active ingredients to combat aging and offer barrier defense to combat Colorado’s climate. The line also contains an eye defense serum that helps with wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles.
Their best-selling product is the beauty balm. It’s a moisturizer made with plant-stem based vitamin C. It’s gentler on the skin for people who are sensitive. Because all Simple Body products are formulated for Colorado skin, the formulas are designed to trap moisture.
Holiday Shopping
Simple Body will be launching a corporate gift basket program which offers companies large discounts if they order 10 or more baskets as a way to thank employees or customers around the holidays. And they look forward to participating in Small Business Saturday and the Old Colorado City Christmas Stroll on November 25th. The shop will be serving Gluhwein and snacks. They will also offer a selection of additional holiday gifts and goodies from other women-owned businesses.
Burdick says, “My greatest joy is talking to my customers every day.”
