Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding

6 slices of bread

4 TBS butter, softened

1/2 cup raisins

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped apple, 1/2 cup walnut

2 1/2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)

1/2 cup dark brown sugar

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional Toppings: honey, maple syrup, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream


Butter bread and cut into cubes. Layer bread cubes, raisins, apples, and walnuts (if using) in greased 8x8 baking dish. Combine milk, sugar, and spices in small bowl. Pour mixture over bread and let rest for at least 30 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes until pudding is firm and golden. Serve hot with preferred toppings.
