On Interning

Rosie Chester Reflects on Her Internship With Us at Boulder Lifestyle

What has been your favorite part about interning with Boulder Lifestyle?

My favorite part about interning with Boulder Lifestyle were the countless connections I was so lucky to foster. As an out-of-state student, I was constantly searching for ways to make Boulder feel like “home.” The Lifestyle team and Boulder community are close-knit but welcomed me with open arms.

Has being part of this internship inspired you in new ways for your future career path?

This internship has inspired me in new ways in terms of my future career path by encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone and to reach out to all types of people and businesses. In addition, I have seen first-hand how integral teamwork on a collective vision is essential for success for a publication. Moving forward, I will make sure to utilize the skills I have learned and observed from those above me on the team––they have become mentors to me and have a wealth of knowledge to contribute.

Do you have a top moment or memory that was one of your favorite experiences as an intern?

There have been so many top moments and memories during my time as an intern it’s hard to choose! One would definitely be the Gage Home shoot we did last fall with the team––this was one of the first times I witnessed a 4-page spread come together in real-time. With Poppy & Co. on the camera, and the editorial coordinator and publication director by her side, I observed the fun-filled, passionate aspect of this work.

What did you intend to gain from the internship experience?

Coming into this internship, I hoped to gain editorial experience that went beyond what I was used to in print. Lucky for me, I was given the guidance and support I needed to thrive in this environment while tackling new projects and tasks with a creative and entrepreneurial spirit!

Three words to describe your internship

Fast-paced, inspiring, connectedness.

Any fun facts?

I’ve been told I’m an “old soul” by many and am scarily good at remembering names and faces.

Where do you see yourself in 2022?

In 2022, I see myself traveling and writing more. Perhaps in the South of France or somewhere along the Amalfi Coast? A girl can dream, who’s with me?
