For many veterans, coming home is not the end of the journey. The uniform may come off, but transitioning into the next chapter of life can bring challenges that are difficult to face alone. Operation Forward was created from a simple belief: honoring those who served should be more than something we say. It should be something we do.

Founded by Stavros and Dorothy Kaplaneris, Operation Forward is a Texas nonprofit built around a focused approach to service. Each year, the organization selects one veteran and surrounds that individual with twelve months of meaningful, wraparound support through its Veteran Life Reset Program.

The idea is intentionally different. Rather than providing a single gift, event, or short-term resource, Operation Forward brings businesses, community leaders, health and wellness professionals, and neighbors together, allowing each to contribute what they do best. By concentrating those resources around one veteran for an entire year, the goal is to create lasting change across multiple areas of life.

In 2026, veterans were nominated by members of the community, beginning a selection process that ultimately involved local mayors. On May 23, Crystal was announced as Operation Forward’s 2026 recipient during a community celebration at Group 1 Ford Rockwall.

Her name being called represented more than being selected for a program. It represented the beginning of a relationship—and a promise that the community would continue showing up long after the celebration ended.

For the next twelve months, Operation Forward and its partners are walking alongside Crystal, connecting her with resources designed to strengthen her health and wellness, financial future, everyday life, and overall sense of possibility.

Operation Forward was never intended to enter someone’s life for a moment and disappear. Its purpose is to build relationships, provide accountability, remove obstacles, and create opportunities while reminding a veteran that the community they once served is now ready to serve them.

It is gratitude transformed into action.

That promise is possible because local businesses chose to step forward together. Their contributions represent something greater than any single donation. Transportation and insurance, health and wellness, fitness, chiropractic care, better sleep, personal care, financial guidance, coaching, technology, home services, and community storytelling become pieces of one comprehensive support system built around a veteran.

That collaboration is the heartbeat of Operation Forward.

One business does not have to solve every challenge. One person does not have to provide every resource. Instead, each partner begins with a much simpler question: What can we do?

When enough people ask that question—and are willing to act on the answer—a community can accomplish something extraordinary.

For Stavros and Dorothy, the vision extends far beyond one recipient. Crystal represents the first chapter of something designed to continue year after year. Each year will bring another veteran, another story, and another opportunity for local businesses and neighbors to combine their resources around someone who once answered the call to serve.

The hope is that Operation Forward becomes more than an annual program. It becomes an example of what is possible when a community stops asking whether one person or business can make a difference and starts recognizing the collective power of many people doing their part.

Operation Forward is ultimately about more than what is given. It is about restoring possibility, creating connection, and demonstrating what can happen when gratitude becomes action.

It is a community looking a veteran in the eyes and saying: “Your service mattered. Your future matters. And you do not have to move forward alone.”

One veteran. One year. One community. Moving forward together.
