One Woman's Fitness Journey

Local Attorney Says Orangetheory Fitness Keeps Her Motivated, Accountable

When did you first begin your personal wellness journey?

I began my fitness journey specifically with Orangetheory Fitness sometime around early September of 2018. I had fallen into a rut and a dear friend invited me to attend a class with her. After my first class, I was hooked. I signed up and attend four to five classes each week, rain or shine, no excuses.

What does wellness mean for you?

Wellness is the ability to live life to the fullness. Wellness is enjoying time with my family. Wellness is having the energy to work all day, and still being able to play basketball with my son. Wellness is the ability to get a good night’s sleep. Wellness is watching your nutrition; what you put in is what you get out.

How has OTF helped you on your wellness journey?

OTF has changed my life. I actually enjoy working out. The coaches are extremely encouraging. The entire staff at OTF are some of the most welcoming people you will meet. I love how they know each and every member’s name. I enjoy that each and every class at OTF is different. There is no shortage of high fives and "you can do it" attitudes at OTF. I have made some lifelong friends with members of OTF family. I love how they keep me motivated and how they keep me accountable. We are all striving to be the best versions of ourselves.

Why do you think OTF worked so well for you?

At OTF, you do not have to think about what you need to do. You just go in and do them. Each of the weight room exercises is demonstrated by the coaches. The coaches are there help you. I have always been active, as I played soccer in high school and exercised regularly my entire life. The difference is I would go to the gym, run for a while on the treadmill, do some weights and then call it a day. After a few months of this, I would get bored and stop going. Then I would pick it back up again and so on and so forth. No consistency. With OTF, you have to sign up for your classes ahead of time, and if you do not attend the class, or late cancel, you will be charged a fee for not attending. I have never been late or cancelled a class since I joined over 14 months ago. I enjoy going to the class, and although each class has its own degree of difficulty, I feel better and stronger after I attend. Although, sometimes I do not want to go, I still go, because I feel better after the class.

Who would you say has been the most integral person to your wellness journey?

My fantastic husband, hands down! He has always been my biggest supporter. After a few months of joining OTF and my constant chatter to my husband about OTF, my husband joined OTF as well.

If you give a piece of wellness advice to your past self, what would it be?

Consistently is key!! There is no quick fix to fitness. Set your priorities, stick to them and celebrate little successes—and cut yourself some slack every once in a while. Always remember, you can do anything you put your mind to.
