Every beloved destination city has at least one distinct architectural landmark synonymous with its identity. New York City has the Empire State Building, San Francisco has the Golden Gate Bridge, and London has Big Ben.

In Durango, we have The Strater Hotel, a building that is visually striking and steeped in local lore and history. But what some may not realize is that The Strater is so much more than its imposing Victorian facade. Step inside and learn about the many opportunities that await, from delectable menus and unique cocktails to one of the most robust lineups of live entertainment in Durango. There is something here for everyone.

Luscious Libations

“Meet me at the office” takes on a new meaning for patrons of The Office Spiritorium. The elegant yet jovial atmosphere brings just the right amount of class and coziness to warm you up on the coldest nights. Snuggle up by the fire with an Embezzlement (Hot Coffee, Crème de Cacao, Frangelico & Bailey’s) and enjoy a little banter as a local musician croons along with their guitar. More of a whiskey fan? Ask for a Written Warning (Wild Turkey 101, House Infused Ginger-Rosemary Honey, Lemon, Charred Rosemary).

If you want to get a taste of the old days along with your spirits, The Diamond Belle Saloon is just the spot. An old western saloon complete with old-time tunes played live on the piano and feather-clad “Belle Girls” slinging delectable drinks and unique fare, this place will transport you to another time. Sip on a Gold Rush (Colorado Honey Bourbon, Honey, Simple Syrup & Lemon) and forget your troubles.

Each restaurant/bar offers a unique lunch and dinner menu with mouthwatering appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts.

Locally Sourced Culinary Delights

The Mahogany Grille offers a feast for both your eyes and taste buds. Victorian details and a classic yet relaxed ambiance make this steak and seafood establishment the perfect place to dine and unwind. Locally sourced ingredients are used to create culinary masterpieces that range from small plates to traditional favorites.

Hosting a private party? The Centennial Room seats 20 and is tucked away from the hustle and bustle. For larger parties and special occasions, the Oak Room and Pullman Room are elegant and private.

Live Entertainment

Both the Diamond Belle Saloon and the Office Spiritorium offer live entertainment every night of the year, excluding Christmas. Pop into either of these establishments on any given evening and delight in the talent of one of our local musicians. The Blue Moon Ramblers have been cranking out ragtime classics at the Diamond Belle for more than 30 years. Other regulars span many genres, including country, rock, reggae, and blues.

Room Dedications

One of the most remarkable features of The Strater Hotel is its 88 rooms, which are unique and decorated with Victorian-era walnut furniture. The Strater Room Dedications Program is a special way to honor upstanding community members, organizations, and historical figures by naming a room after them. When you select the number of a dedicated room on The Strater’s website, you come to an article that outlines the individual or organization the room is named after and the contributions they made to the community of Durango.

Whether you want a weekend “away,” a night out, or to host an extravagant soiree, The Strater is your local establishment to stay, play, and entertain. With three restaurants, three event spaces, 88 hotel rooms, and 364 evenings of live entertainment annually, there is undoubtedly something to meet your needs.
