Pageantry With A Cause

One local woman is passionately advocating on a state and federal level for families struggling with infertility

Amanda Klein is a beautiful woman, blonde and blue-eyed with a warm, welcoming smile. It comes as no surprise that she held the title of USOA Mrs. Nevada. Once you meet Amanda, you quickly realize that behind the pageant beauty lies a smart, strong, and passionate fighter.

Amanda has suffered great losses in her life and has chosen to find hope and purpose in her pain. After multiple pregnancies and three miscarriages (all at 10 weeks), Amanda and her husband Marc sadly learned they suffered from infertility. Recognized as a disease by the World Health Organization, infertility affects 1 in 8 couples in the United States.

After nearly three years of surgeries and a series of what Amanda describes as unnecessary procedures, she found answers at the Fertility Center of Las Vegas. Under the comprehensive and compassionate care of Dr. Carrie Bedient, who diagnosed Amanda’s condition as a bicornuate uterus, sometimes referred to as a “heart-shaped” womb because it resembles a heart, Dr. Bedient recommended IVF with a surrogate.

Amanda and Marc are now the joyous parents of energetic and sweet, nearly one-year-old Emma. Emma is the result of the intersection of love, perseverance, and science.

Amanda entered and finished in the top 10 at her first pageant. She found the experience extremely rewarding but was unable to continue competing because she aged out. Like a caring friend, pageantry resurfaced in Amanda’s life, just when she needed it most, immediately following her first miscarriage. She entered the Mrs. Nevada pageant circuit at the behest of co-workers and in 2020, won the title of Mrs. Nevada at the United States of America’s Pageant - USOA. She describes the process as healing and empowering. “It truly has changed the trajectory of my life,” she states.

Amanda, a native Las Vegan, felt called to help other families struggling with infertility. Her pageant platform is Project Tiny Human, and like the non-profit she founded, Nevada Fertility Advocates, aims to create awareness, fundraise, provide education and support, improve outcomes, and protect fertility preservation for afflicted families. Amanda is proud to work with Resolve: The National Infertility Association, on behalf of families like hers. During the 2021 Nevada Legislative Session, she proposed AB274: The Medically Necessary Fertility Preservation Act. While the bill was not passed into law, Amanda is not done fighting for access to care at both the state and federal level. Because of her work with Congress to advocate for access to infertility coverage, she was appointed her current title of USOA Mrs. District of Columbia.

Amanda encourages women to consider pageantry and affirms that “USOA celebrates female empowerment, strength, fitness, and community engagement”—all the qualities that make modern women, like Amanda Klein, beautiful.
