Parks & Rec Forever

Enhancing Community Life Through Nature, Recreation, and Art

The City of Johns Creek is home to a vibrant and growing Recreation & Parks Department dedicated to providing exceptional spaces and programs for residents of all ages and backgrounds. Managing over 400 acres of parkland and nature reserves, the department offers a wide range of recreational activities, sports, and events designed to engage the community year-round.

Under the leadership of Director Erica Madsen and her dedicated team, the city’s award-winning parks system has flourished. They oversee nine unique parks and an extensive calendar of events that collectively attract more than 200,000 guests annually. These events include free cultural arts, movies, concerts, and family-friendly activities—ensuring there is always something for everyone. Popular events like the International Festival and Breakfast with Santa have become local favorites, drawing local families and visitors from across the region.

A major part of the city's commitment to enhancing recreational spaces is the ongoing transformation of its Town Center. Construction began in August 2024 on Creekside Park, which will feature a blend of active and passive park amenities. This new park will serve as a central hub for both recreation and relaxation. The project includes a pedestrian tunnel providing a safe and accessible connection under Medlock Bridge Road (SR 141), linking residents directly to the bustling Town Center area and the new Creekside Park. The project is expected to be finished by fall 2025.

As you explore the city’s many parks, walking trails, and public spaces, you will discover a growing array of public art displays that enhance the aesthetic and cultural experience of the community. These public art pieces include sculptures, murals, architectural elements, and other forms of creative expression that reflect both the history and the dynamic spirit of Johns Creek. Public art in the city is a collaborative effort involving the City of Johns Creek, local businesses, individual donors, community organizations.

One of the most recent additions to the city's public art collection is the striking sculpture “Playful Passages,” located at Morton Road Park (4860 Morton Road). Created by artist Julia Hill, this piece features salvaged iron from the historic Rogers Bridge, which once spanned the Chattahoochee River. The bridge, an iconic landmark in the region, was decommissioned and dismantled, but Hill’s artwork breathes new life into the original iron.

“Everyone Has A Seat In Johns Creek” is painted by street artist Kelsey Montague, whose iconic interactive murals span the globe. The mural is on the south wall of the concession stand in Newtown Park. The piece is customized for Johns Creek, featuring six chairs with elements to represent the city and celebrate its diversity and promote inclusiveness.

As Johns Creek continues to grow and thrive, it remains a place where art, nature, and community come together in perfect harmony.
