Kids Eat Free Guide

Beat the Heat with Budget-Friendly Ideas for Closing Out Summer on the Area's Coolest Patios

Living the Florida dream for many of us means lots of outdoor activities and the resulting excellent vitamin D levels. We’d be remiss if we didn’t remind you to remember your sunscreen, though. The good news is that kids genuinely enjoy using those UV detection stickers that change colors when it’s time to reapply. Which begs the question: where are the color-changing stickers for the rest of us? Grownups need that reapplication nudge just as much as the little ones.

By August, however, shade-seeking behaviors abound. We’ve compiled a list of sun-safe options for eating out with the family where kids eat free or nearly free. After all, navigating the final stretch of summer requires protecting both your peace of mind and your finances. If your summer entertainment budget wrapped up around the Fourth of July — and you’re counting down the minutes to an early bedtime — you are definitely not alone.

These are the days we want a nice patio spot with good views and functioning fans. For patio alternatives, we’ll take excellent air-conditioning and something to keep the kids busy and happy.
