Matt Finkelstein is the founder and chief captain of Optimum Human Performance Center. He grew up back East in the Hamptons. During his sophomore year of high school, his sister was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease and was the only patient in her treatment cohort to survive this illness. It was then that Matt understood "western medicine isn't perfect." This experience made him strongly question the standard of care, "How do we do better so there can there be better outcomes for more people?" The search to find a better way has driven his goals and accomplishments throughout his life.
Matt has had a curious professional journey that has afforded him an extensive set of tools and knowledge. He has been a lawyer, an airline pilot, an NLP, a hypnotherapist, and a certified firewalker. Yes, firewalker. Like most, he had deeply rooted beliefs in the laws of physics, but he was also fascinated by stories of individuals demonstrating superhuman abilities in extraordinary circumstances. To Matt, firewalking was one of those phenomena that made him ask," Is it possible to influence the laws of physics with one's mind?" So he decided to attend a 10-day retreat at Sundoor in California with firewalking expert Peggy Dylan to find out.
Matt was expected to complete a firewalk every day. Before each walk, he would purposefully manipulate his thoughts and mental states and then observe how they impacted his experiences while traversing over hot coals. Matt noticed that he was less affected by the extreme heat when he imagined floating across the coals like air. The impact of this experience is that Matt now often challenges the status quo and has no problem "bending the rules" to see what is possible and makes sense.
"We have the ability to access more potential. How do we do this and do it more often?"
