The Pearl Dermatology

Offering Houstonians advanced technology in cosmetic procedures.

Our skin is so important. It's the body's largest organ and has many functions, including protecting us from outside elements and regulating our body's temperature. Just like a pearl, our skin is formed of multiple, precious layers that we need to take care of. But it's not always easy, and sometimes we need a little extra help from the professionals.

Board-certified dermatologists Tracy Katz, M.D, and Jennifer Deaver Peterson, M.D, opened The Pearl Dermatology in the fall of 2018. After previously working together, they decided to launch their own, full service medical and cosmetic dermatology practice to serve Houstonians and teach them the importance of taking care of their skin.

Tracy Katz, M.D, is a Houston native who has been practicing medical and cosmetic dermatology for the past 7 years. She is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. In previous years, Dr. Katz has been recognized by her peers as Houstonia Magazine's Top Doctor in Dermatology as well as Texas Monthly's Top Doctor Rising Star Edition in Dermatology. Dr. Katz is proficient in the screening and treatment of skin cancer as well as being a skilled injector of all cosmetic injectables. She enjoys laser surgery and various other skin rejuvenation procedures.

Jennifer Deaver Peterson, M.D is a fellow native Houstonian and is a triple-board certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon through the American Board of Dermatology, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery in Dermatologic Cosmetic Surgery, and the American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery. One of her areas of focus is using laser surgery to treat a variety of medical and cosmetic conditions. She also specializes in facial augmentation with injectable fillers and the rejuvenation of the aging chest, neck, and hands.

Both doctors genuinely care about their clients. They believe not only in outstanding customer service and advanced treatments that provide exceptional and natural results but also about educating all their clients. During a consultation, they will present their recommendations based on the needs of the client but also go into detail about how that treatment works and why it is the right choice for that client. It's important their clients feel taken care of and understand what to expect during the procedure. Building trust with their clients has allowed them to establish a loyal clientele.

The Pearl Dermatology is located in the popular, upscale Galleria area, is exquisitely decorated with marble floors and gold details, and offers a wide variety of some of the most advanced technology and services currently available. Some of these treatments include laser resurfacing, Ultherapy, microneedling with PRP, CoolSculpting, Kybella, and fillers. But in an industry that never stops changing and evolving, neither should the treatments. When I spoke with Dr. Katz and Dr. Deaver Peterson, something they are excited about is the advanced technology using exosomes in the dermatology field. Studies are showing that exosomes, which are being used as carriers of growth factors, are having tremendous positive effects on the skin from dealing with anti-aging and repairing sun damage.

Our skin is always on display; there is no hiding it. So if you are suffering from acne, have severe sun damage, or are concerned with anti-aging, seek the help of a professional you know has your best interests at heart. Your skin is as precious and as valuable as a pearl, so isn't it about time you treated it like one?

Skin Care Tip 1- Protect Our Coral Reefs

Recent studies have shown ingredients in chemical-based sunscreens can cause damage to our coral reefs. Once these chemicals are in the water, they actually decrease the corals' defenses, damaging their DNA and hurting their development.

Skin Care Tip 2- Say No To Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has one of the highest comedogenic ratings out there. This means that coconut oil can't penetrate the pores and blocks them instead, ultimately leading to more acne breakouts.

Skin Care Tip 3- Choosing The Right Products

When selecting skincare products, always make sure they are from a company that does research. Clinical trials help prove the product's work.

Skin Care Tip 4 – The Microbead Ban

Microbeads are tiny pieces of plastic found in certain cosmetic products. Under the Microbead-Free Waters Act of 2015, microbeads are now banned, and you should avoid any products that still contain them.
