Christine Heartsill Balances Masculine and Feminine to Create a Bedroom Oasis

Christine Heartsill knows how to take a blank canvas and create something exceptional. She discusses how she took a bland space and created a romantic sanctuary that balanced masculine and feminine design elements. Follow her design tips and create your own oasis.

What did you have to work with at the beginning of the project, and what inspired your vision?

Everything was white! White walls, white marble tile floors, white trims. We needed to bring some pops of color in. Because the property was a bit more on the contemporary side, and they leaned more modern in their desired style, we used contemporary elements such as clean lines, bold patterns, and bright colors throughout the house.

What elements did you use as a focal point in the bedroom?

The client wanted something somewhat masculine but not too much for the primary suite. They wanted some feminine touches and elements to soften things up a bit. We used bright and bold colors to offset all the white and differing patterns and textures to bring in some character.

What was the final result?

Although the furnishings leaned more masculine, we added some feminine and romantic touches with the decor and lighting. They loved how it turned out.
