Min Kwon a Local Virtuoso with Global Impact

Bedminster resident Min Kwon has earned international acclaim as a pianist, educator, and arts advocate—while remaining deeply rooted in her local community.

Born in Korea and trained at The Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, Kwon has performed in over 60 countries and all 50 U.S. states. Known for her expressive artistry and technical brilliance, she appears regularly as a soloist, chamber musician, and concerto performer. Since 2002, she has served as Professor of Piano at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, mentoring the next generation of musical talent.

In 2010, Kwon founded the Center for Musical Excellence (CME), a nonprofit that supports young musicians through scholarships, mentorship, and performance opportunities. One of her most ambitious CME initiatives is America/Beautiful, a project featuring 76 commissioned works inspired by the patriotic song. The composers represent a “who’s who” of American music, including Pulitzer Prize, Grammy, Emmy, and Rome Prize winners, as well as faculty from Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, MIT, Brown and Stanford. The project explores themes of identity, unity, and belonging through a diverse array of musical voices.

Locally, Kwon brings her global vision home through Live at the Barn, an intimate concert series held at her residence in Far Hills under the auspices of CME. The series showcases both internationally acclaimed performers and rising stars, inviting the community to experience world-class music up close. Kwon welcomes audience members, volunteers, and patrons to be part of her mission to move musicians forward and foster meaningful connections through music.

A Steinway Artist and the first alumnus invited to serve on The Juilliard Council, Kwon continues to inspire on both the global stage and in her own backyard.
