Every October, the waiting room at the Cherokee County Health Department's Woodstock Health Center fills with a little more pink than usual — and a lot more purpose. It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for one of North Georgia's busiest health centers, that means throwing open the doors for two of the most anticipated events of the year.
This October, the Woodstock Health Center, located at 7545 North Main Street, Suite 100, will once again host its Breast Cancer Awareness Days on [DATE] and [DATE], offering free breast exams to women ages 40 to 64 — and to any woman who's noticed a concerning change and wants peace of mind, regardless of age. Pap smears are available for those who need them, and referrals for mammograms are provided on the spot.
But it's about more than the exam room. Walk through those doors and you'll find educational literature on early detection, staff ready to walk you through the signs and symptoms every woman should know, and a genuine welcome that makes an intimidating topic feel a little more manageable. There's even a goodie bag and a raffle for prizes — small touches that turn a health screening into something closer to a community gathering.
For women without insurance or the means to cover a mammogram, the center offers enrollment in the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) right there on-site, helping ensure cost is never the reason someone skips a screening that could save her life.
