In Naples, a full calendar can span several time zones. A business meeting up north, a weekend with grandchildren, a return home before the next charity dinner. For people whose lives unfold between destinations, the appeal of private aviation is deeply practical: more say over how the day is spent, and someone dependable to handle the details.
Jim Pyne is building PLS Aviation around that expectation. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman and Wheels Up co-founder has turned his attention to a more personal aviation business, one in which the founder remains within reach long after the introduction.
Pyne spent nine seasons in the NFL before building a second career in aviation. At Wheels Up, he served as chief partnership officer and helped guide the company from startup to a publicly traded business. He established Tampa-based PLS in 2024, bringing that experience to an independent brokerage arranging private flights through a global network of operators.
The distinction matters. PLS sources aircraft for individual journeys, allowing clients to consider options suited to the trip. Its on-demand charter offering requires no membership fee or aircraft ownership commitment. For a Naples household balancing seasonal travel with less predictable business and family obligations, that flexibility has an obvious appeal.
That approach now has another advocate in Carlos Peña, who has joined PLS as Strategic Partner, Sports & Entertainment. In announcing his role, Peña described knowing travel from both sides: aboard the charter heading to perform and in the front office making arrangements. He is working alongside Pyne to grow that side of the business, with a clear priority: helping clients arrive rested and ready for the demands awaiting them.
For Pyne, personal service includes the less visible work of travel: reviewing aircraft information, coordinating catering and ground transportation, and following up after the journey. Former Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians, a PLS client, summed up his experience for the Business Observer: “Dependability and service. He makes it so easy for you.”
The company reports that it reached profitability in its first year. Now, as Pyne works to deepen its presence across Tampa Bay and the Gulf Coast, Southwest Florida presents a persuasive next chapter. For residents who have built trusted relationships with the people managing their homes and businesses, choosing an aviation partner can follow the same logic. Expertise matters; so does knowing who will answer when plans change.
Naples gives that proposition a particularly human dimension. The flight might make a meeting possible, bring a family together or preserve one more afternoon at home. The aircraft gets the attention. What stays with the traveler is how well someone understood the reason for the trip.
