One of our favorite getaways in less than 2 ½ hours is Highlands, North Carolina. So much so, that we are building a house there. Julep Farms, the quaintest spot just 25 minutes before going up the mountain, offers delicious food and cocktails while shopping throughout the retail area. We enjoy Old Edwards Inn & Spa and dining at some of the best restaurants around, including Highlands Tavern, with an award-winning chef and new menu items often. The butternut squash with prosciutto, brown butter, maple syrup and candied walnut is worth the visit!

In June of 2022, my family and I took a long-overdue and much-needed summer vacation to Italy. It was a phenomenal trip and everything we could have asked for, which reaffirmed our love for a part of the world that never ceases to amaze. With an extended stay, we had more time to discover areas we hadn't seen, such as Lake Como, Amalfi, Lucca and Pompeii; and savor parts like Montepulciano, Santa Fiora and Pienza, located in Tuscany's Southern region, that have a deeper and more personal connection to our Italian heritage and roots. The phrase "food for your soul" comes in many different forms when immersed in everything that Italian culture has to offer from the people, food, wine, landscapes, art, architecture, and of course my personal favorite, high-end automotive performance and design. The memories we share together will forever be in our hearts and minds. We can't wait to go back to create more!

Annual summer vacations are important to the Smith family, and we often spend a great deal of time planning them. In 2010 our family took the trip of a lifetime to Costa Rica to celebrate our oldest son’s college graduation. We rented a land cruiser and drove through the country, which allowed us to experience the many aspects of this beautiful place. Zip lining in the cloud forest, deep sea fishing, playing with monkeys, and dining on the beach made this trip unforgettable.  We would love to go back to Costa Rica and take the new additions that have joined our family over the last 13 years.
