A great many North Hunterdon homes run on well water rather than municipal supply, and Nick Berezansky treats that as something to plan around before a crew ever shows up.
Berezansky owns Central Jersey Exterior Cleaning Services, which washes houses, roofs, gutters and hard surfaces for homeowners across Somerset, Hunterdon and Middlesex counties.
"For our remote clients that are on well water, our normal operation is to tap two water spigots on the home," he says. "This water source is to supplement water that we bring with us in our buffer tanks prior to arrival, but not enough to fully complete a house wash on its own."
How much outside water to bring is not a guess. It is checked on site in advance. "During our initial on-site consultation, I'll go to each water spigot to judge the water pressure coming out of each discharge," he explains.
If the pressure is low, the fix is staged days ahead of the crew. "We can bring a portable water tank trailer to the property several days prior to the washing service and let it fill up on a timer before our crew arrives. That trailer feeds onto our wash truck or trailer to power our machines." Depending on the size of the job that is "either a 500-gallon trailer or a 1,000-gallon trailer. This proactive approach lets us draw from a homeowner's well without over-exhausting the water source."
The volume involved surprises most homeowners. "A typical 2,500 to 3,500 square-foot home can roughly take 400 to 600 gallons of water, depending on how dirty it is and what additional work may be needed."
Where the water goes afterward gets the same attention. "We do pay attention to where water runoff goes, such as downspouts coupled together into a drainage pipe system. We make sure those discharges are properly cleaned and running."
The takeaway for North Hunterdon homeowners on well water: the on-site consultation is not paperwork. It is how the contractor
