Sometimes, a home remodel conjures the beauty (of the finished project) and the beast (the process). With Kadi Design + Build, however, beauty wins out as clients enjoy a smooth path to their dream home, with no sign of the beast.
“We are a one-stop shop,” said Jennifer Kadi, an architect who owns the firm with Jonathan, her contractor husband. They met in architecture school at Catholic University and started the company from scratch.
To begin a project, Jonathan and Jennifer, or Jon and Jen as they’re known, meet with clients to look at the space. Once they have a contract, Jen said she is “the one who takes care of design, drawings, permitting and selections. Everything is in house so then it gets passed on to Jon and he takes care of construction.”
Along the way, they keep customers feeling confident and comfortable by providing schedules and timelines. “Each day, you get an update of what’s going to happen and, at the start of each week, we give an update of the milestones for that week, about when your cabinets are coming (for example),” she explained.
While Jen said kitchens and baths are the company’s “bread and butter,” their services also include decks, patios and additions, as well as furniture selection, custom millwork, painting, drywall work, and more. Jen especially enjoys helping clients select lighting and hardware. “It’s like the jewelry in a space.”
White and other neutrals are still very popular in kitchens and baths but Jen pointed out opportunities to introduce color and texture by “incorporating personal found objects and furniture such as a reclaimed kitchen table or china hutch.” Jen enjoys helping clients incorporate legacy pieces, family heirlooms, and collected treasures to work in harmony with their newly renovated spaces. She added, “We pride ourselves in helping our clients create timeless, lasting spaces, for their families to enjoy.”
