Vicki Earnshaw Still Gets A Rush From Teaching Others How To Handle Their Rides

The gift of a driver’s education class for Mother’s Day more than 20 years ago sparked a racing passion — and eventually her love of all things Porsche — for Vicki Earnshaw that she says still gives her a thrill to share with others. Vicki is an organizer and chief driving instructor for this year’s Ladies-Only High Performance Driver Education Day from the Rocky Mountain Region of Porsche Club of America.

“This is by far my most-treasured event, to bring in 60, 70 women and let them have a great time. It’s about empowering women to try something new and learn the skills of how to drive their cars correctly,” Vicki says. “If that saves them from having an accident, that’s the part that’s pretty amazing.”

Vicki is the former chairwoman of the Porsche Club of America Racing Program and currently serves as steward. Her involvement in the Porsche Club has taken her all over the world — including Germany several times.

Vicki says she loves the racing events for the adrenaline, and there’s nothing she’d rather drive than a Porsche.

“It’s the best car there is. There’s not a Porsche that’s not meant to race, except the SUV. Every car can race, out of the box, off the floor, you can go racing with these cars.

“I was a late bloomer. I didn’t get started until my kids were 16,” Vicki says. “This is one way people can go out and give it a try. I don’t assume they’re going to go out and be racers, but if you can take one things and learn how to control your car better, it’s worth it.”

Join the Rocky Mountain Region of Porsche Club of America for its annual Ladies-Only High Performance Driver Education on Aug. 10 at the Colorado State Patrol Track in Golden. This is the largest women-only track event in the nation. The event is open to all women regardless of experience and all makes of cars, but some rules do apply. Register by Aug. 5. For more information and to register, visit RMR.PCA.org.
