Get excited, wine lovers! October is Virginia Wine Month and what better way to celebrate than with a bottle of Ashton Creek Vineyards’ finest? The Thibault family bought the vineyard in 2006 and worked hard to build the facilities and cultivate their vineyards across 10 years. Ashton Creek Vineyard continues to be family owned and operated, serving the surrounding RVA communities.

The Thibault’s son, Alan, got his training in viticulture and winemaking from Virginia Tech. Alan has become passionate about the process and preparations that go into winemaking. “Things we do in the vineyard really are not seen until the following season,” says Alan. “In the cellar, we are constantly monitoring the wines as they develop and guiding them in the right direction. This usually takes 6 to 24 months depending on the desired end product.” It truly is a labor of love. “The waiting game to see the results of our hard work can be tough but when it all comes together it’s worth it!”

When it comes to the science of winemaking as well as the art of food and wine pairing, it’s all about finding that perfect balance. “We are looking for how the flavors react with your palate,” explains Alan. “Flavors should complement each other and balance out the extremes of both the wine and food.” So what’s the best way to start learning about wine? “Drink more wine!” laughs Alan. “It sounds simple, but it really is the best way to start learning what varieties, styles, and regions you like.”

Every member of their team makes it a priority to make sure each of their guests feels like family every time they visit. The winery’s scenic lawn and patio are the perfect place for guests to enjoy a glass, flight, tasting, or carafe with one of the delicious savory or sweet options from Ashton Creek’s food menu. They also offer wine on tap as a sustainable way for their eco-minded clients to save money while satisfying their wine habits. Alan welcomes his customers to fill a growler to-go or enjoy a carafe onsite. They also offer a wine club that gives members huge discounts and early access to new wines and member-only events.

Ashton Creek offers special events and live music throughout the year. Their next event will be a wine pairing dinner on October 20. Tickets may be purchased at: ashtoncreekvineyard.com
