Tools and Tech
Don’t be a tool. Borrow them from the library. Beyond books, MCDL offers a surprising lineup of practical (and just plain fun) items you can check out for free. Tackle your next home project with a stud finder or thermal leak detector, troubleshoot your car with a fault code reader, or get energy-smart with a Kill A Watt electricity monitor. You can even borrow a radon detector for added peace of mind.
And it’s not all work — plan your next outdoor adventure with binoculars, try your luck with a metal detector, or pick up a pickleball set for some friendly competition. It’s all available at Medina Library now, with more locations rolling out these offerings throughout the year.
History Events and Genealogy
History buff much? MCDL is hosting several America 250 events this summer, from Celebrating Independence to Exploring the American Presidency. In addition, the Family History and Learning Center features our expansive history collection and offers one-on-one genealogy help. You can even use our equipment to convert home movies from reels or VHS, scan family photos to digital, and convert slides to photos.
Passports
Plan a getaway or surprise your family with a vacation. First step? Get your passport at the library. Available at the Medina, Brunswick, and Lodi locations, we’ll take your picture, ensure the forms are completed perfectly, and even mail it for you. Call to make an appointment to get the undivided attention of a passport agent during your session.
Adventure Passes
Stay close to home and go on a free family outing with MCDL’s Adventure Passes. Borrow one for up to a week and get free admission, parking, and discounts at the Akron Zoo, Akron Art Museum, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, Cleveland Botanical Gardens and Holden Arboretum, and the Brunswick Rec Center. Just one use can equal $120 value.
Storytimes
Dads and Grandpas encouraged! Storytime is a chance to bond with little ones while they learn social and early literacy skills. Reading to children and attending story times is proven to improve a child’s success in school.
Storytime is jam-packed with entertainment, plenty of new friends, and a lot of singing and dancing. If you’re lucky, we’ll get out the parachute and bubble machine! Registration is open now for the summer sessions that run through August 1.
Summer Reading
Get down and dirty this summer with our dinosaur-themed Summer Reading Game. Bring your kids or grandkids to our six locations for the reading challenge, win great prizes, and attend some of our biggest events like Dino Detectives with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, a DNA workshop hosted by the Great Lakes Science Center, a reptile meet and greet, and a dinosaur puppet show. When kids read over the summer it prevents the “summer slide” in reading skills, setting them up for a smooth transition back to school in August and for a successful school year ahead.

A library card is not just for checking out books. You need one in your wallet. Think of it as a pre-loaded debit card that you swipe to get all the items and services you want at the library for free. Tired of paying for streaming services? Try Hoopla and Kanopy for movies, TV series, and music downloads.
