Whether you're a natural redhead, a brunette with auburn flecks, or a blonde wanting to add some strawberry, you can mix up your look by going a couple of shades lighter or darker. Maybe you add some highlights. Maybe you don't have any red in your hair at all and want to try something totally new!

Whatever the case, here are some red hairstyles that are trending this year.

Strawberry Blonde

"Strawberry blonde is one of those hair colors that makes you want to stare. Is it red? Is it blonde? Honey, it's both. The shade falls somewhere in between, perfect for the indecisive and daring alike. Best of all, it's a flattering color family for numerous skin tones as well because it comes in a range of hues. Strawberry blonde contains varying amounts of gold and copper tones, so colorist Chad Kenyon says it's important to be as specific as possible when requesting your dream shade at the salon. "I have my clients show me a minimum of three hair-color photos they like as well as three they do not like," he says. Fortunately for you, we've got 14 to choose from — but you'll probably love them all. Just in time for summer (the perfect occasion for a color switch-up), we've rounded up some inspiration from the stars, serving up refreshing strawberry blonde looks on a range of skin tones."

Auburn Highlights

"To get a Sun-Kissed shade of Auburn, ask your colorist to place highlights close your ends to brighten the overall look and add more dimension. When it comes to aftercare, Sanger recommends the Davines Alchemic Shampoo ($27) and Conditioner ($31) 'to preserve and enhance the tones in your hair,' he says. For this shade specifically, use the "Golden" version, because it will keep your strands bright."

All-Over Red Color

"While just two percent of the world's population is born with red hair (including baby Archie according to mom, Meghan Markle), you don't need a ginger gene to pull off the super-rare shade. 'The key to achieving the most natural red hair is sticking within the copper or copper-gold family,' explains Matrix celebrity stylist George Papanikolas, who works with the Kardashians, Hailey Baldwin, Shay Mitchell and Nicole Richie. 'Any highlights should also stay on tone and in the warm family to accent and compliment the copper base.'"
