Joey Solano is an in-home personal trainer and coach. He named his business Black Sheep Lifestyle to represent the concept of being different and to use it as your advantage. While his journey began as a personal endeavor to help his mom regain her health after retirement, Joey realized so many people reach retirement and have health issues. His mission is to change that.
“It’s possible to rediscover yourself,” Joey shares. That’s exactly what he aspires for in his clients. He begins with getting to know his clients through an assessment and genuine conversation. Being fit in his definition begins with love. “I don’t want to know how many pounds you want to lose, I want to know how many grandkids you have,” Joey goes on, “I think the focus should be loving yourself because that’s where it starts. A lot of times [losing weight] has more to do with lifestyle and being able to spend time with friends and family.” He firmly believes finding out your why behind your fitness goals is key.
After the assessment he focuses on mobility and stretching exercises. “My job is to make you move correctly first, then we go into body weight exercises, what we call functional movement. From there goals can go any direction, build strength, muscle, lose 5 lbs, diet, etc.” Joey cares about time with loved ones and mobility for the future. That’s what it’s all for. He offers one-on-one training, building home gyms and educating his clients on how to reach their fitness goals.
“Nothing beats serving people,” Joey says. Connection, community and perspective are key to transformation in his eyes. His desire is to build authentic relationships, be vulnerable and grow together in that way. His goal in 2024 is to take action. “Don’t think about it. Don’t question how you’re going to do it. Take action,” he emphasizes.
