Women-owned design company Re-Find, known for its fresh take on classic interiors, is here to help you freshen up your well-loved spaces after the busy holiday season. Owners and designers Natasia Smith and Sandy Baisley are zealous about interior design and want to ensure you make the most out of your home.
The holidays can bring a lot of (fun) mess, and sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin when it comes to decluttering. Instead of taking everything down or throwing the decorations into a dusty box for next year, Natasia recommends repurposing your items by incorporating fresh elements to add a bit of flair. “Winter decor can be a great transition from holiday, but the key here is to avoid anything too kitschy,” says Natasia. “Wreaths can stay up, but remove all the holiday colors. Maybe try a woodland or cottage look. With the garlands coming down, replacing greenery can help the home feel full.” Natasia suggests including silver dollar eucalyptus because of its “frosted” appearance.
The team at Re-Find loves to reuse, a positive for the environment and a great way to give old designs a new purpose. Sandy says, “Those sentimental pieces that start to look a little rough for wear, but we can’t part with, can be reused in other creative ways. An old ornament makes an adorable piece of art when placed in a frame for next year's mantle decor.”
Another tip is organization. Sandy explains that “it’s important to really take stock in your holiday collection as you begin to dismantle your decor.” Think of what truly is serving you and your space, and if it no longer holds the same value it once did, maybe consider donating it. Though Sandy reminds homeowners that “winter months are a great time to warm up your space,” keep and source items that add coziness to your home.
Unsure of what pieces (or places) to prioritize? Natasia reminds us of a typically forgotten, but important, household chore to brighten up your space. “Window treatments often get looked over, but these are needed to complete a space. Light filtering layers allow your room to glow throughout the day.” In the darker months, we can use all the light we can get! Sandy also emphasizes the value of light: “Lamps and lamp shades have endless possibilities; these elements add so much warmth.” Sandy also suggests integrating “Throws, pillows, footstools with layered prints and rich fabrics” to enrich the warmth of your spaces.
Whatever you choose to do during the post-holiday season, make it your own and stick to what you know and love. You know your space best, but sometimes, fresh eyes can always benefit. Need more design advice? Re-Find provides a free 30-minute consultation. Find them online at Re-FindSpaces.com.
