After high school, LaPere joined the Air Force and became a medic. He served eleven years as a medic, was deployed in many countries, and spent one year in the Honor Guard. After his military career ended, he pursued his career as a doctor, hoping to serve his country in a different but meaningful way. Even though he was moving in another direction, James says he "Wouldn't change my time in the air force for anything."
Three years ago, James and his family moved to Murfreesboro and instantly felt at home within the community.
