The Hyatt Regency Tamaya is a little oasis in the city and a unique place to escape. The hotel is just outside of Bernalillo and about an hour from Santa Fe. At the edge of the southwest desert, a long, windy, road leads visitors to this surprising and remarkable resort destination.

“Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa provides a one-of-a-kind getaway experience for travelers to enjoy the Land of Enchantment’s natural beauty,” says Hyatt Tamaya’s Kylie Okura. The resort offers immersive activities for every type of traveler. Golfing, horseback riding, guided nature walks and spa treatments are available for day visitors and guests at the resort. The range of activities make it an ideal location for a staycation.

Hyatt Regency Tamaya guests can learn about the pueblo culture of the Tamayame visiting the Cultural Learning Center on site. The name “Tamaya” comes from the name of the ancient Santa Ana Pueblo that was established in the late 1600’s. “As the resort is located on the Santa Ana Pueblo, the culture of the pueblo is interwoven into the fabric of the resort experience. Guests can take part in several cultural experiences led by members of the Pueblo with everything from clay and pottery making classes to jewelry making sessions,” says Okura.

The resort is also home to the nonprofit Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Program. The program works to rescue and care for neglected horses in New Mexico.  Guests can enjoy horseback trail rides through the Bosque and a tour through the ancient pueblo petroglyphs at the Stables at Tamaya.

The Hyatt Tamaya Resort sits on 550 acres of land with numerous Cottonwood trees native to the Rio Grande River valley. Couples and families can enjoy sunset strolls on the expansive five miles of walking trails at the resort. The trails lead guests into the southwest mesas and among the Bosque near the banks of the Rio Grande.

This picturesque setting was used at the sole filming location for ABC’s “Bachelorette” show (Katie Thurston’s season). Okura says, “Our team was able to implement a “bubble”-style setting for groups during the pandemic. With its unique location, the resort features unobstructed views of the Sandia Mountains, offering a gorgeous backdrop for an unforgettable getaway.”

The resort is also home to the Twin Warriors Golf Course. For avid golfers the course offers eighteen holes of high desert, championship golf around 20 ancient cultural sites. Twin Warriors course has grassy knolls along with dry arroyo washes. The scenic course offers guests grand views of the Sandia Mountains. Twin Warriors is open seven days a week from March till October. During the winter the golf course is closed on Tuesdays. Tee times are available from November through February. The Atush Bar & Grill offers breakfast and lunch menu and a full bar for golfers.

Hotel guests and visitors can also dine at the Tamaya’s Santa Ana Café or visit the Rio Grande Lounge for happy hour or dinner. The lounge offers comfort food and amazing views of the pink Sandia Mountains from the restaurant’s patio. The Santa Ana Café offers casual, American classics, local New Mexican food, and a variety of vegetarian and gluten free options. Guests can dine indoors or on the covered patio that overlooks the Tuyuna Mesa.

The Santa Ana Café offer a flavorful variety of sandwiches, burritos, quinoa, and specialty entrees. The café’s penne arrabbiata pasta is made with peppers, spinach, roasted mushrooms, and broccoli and finished with a spicy arrabbiata sauce. The café’s chicken enchiladas are made with corn tortillas, Monterey jack cheese, Pico de Gallo, arroz verde, frijole beans and your choice of red, green, or Christmas Style chile.

After a day of exploring the resort, couples can unwind at the Tamaya Mist Spa. The spa features “Prickly Pear Toning”, a gentle full-body exfoliation and hot oil scalp treatment infused with New Mexico cactus flower and a lavender dry brush therapy. The spa also offers couples massage, gemstone therapy, and HydraFacials to hydrate and smooth skin.
