At the Ramos Center for Interventional & Functional Pain Medicine, every patient’s journey toward lasting relief begins with expert evaluation—and that’s where Dr. Lance Cassell comes in.
“I’m the one who evaluates patients’ imaging, medical records, and history,” he explained. “I analyze their MRI, perform a detailed physical exam, and then determine what type of interventional pain procedure will give them the best result.”
A double board-certified specialist in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, Dr. Cassell has spent more than two decades helping patients – of all ages and conditions – find freedom from pain without surgery or opioids.
Once the source of pain is identified, Dr. Cassell develops a personalized plan and collaborates closely with Founder and Medical Director Dr. Fabian Ramos, an expert in interventional pain medicine who performs many of the advanced, minimally invasive procedures designed to bring relief—including steroid and joint injections, kyphoplasty, radiofrequency ablation, and the cutting-edge Intracept® Procedure.
Together, they provide a seamless continuum of care—from diagnosis to treatment and beyond. “For example,” said Dr. Cassell, “if imaging reveals a vertebral compression fracture, I’ll diagnose the issue and recommend a kyphoplasty—a procedure Dr. Ramos performs to stabilize the bone and bring rapid, lasting relief.”
When chronic pain persists, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) may be the answer. “RFA uses heat to disrupt the nerve pathways that send pain signals to the brain,” explained Dr. Cassell. “It’s minimally invasive and can provide long-term relief—often six to nine months or more.”
For patients with vertebrogenic pain that doesn’t radiate into the legs, Dr. Ramos often turns to the Intracept Procedure, which targets the basivertebral nerve inside the vertebra to stop pain at its source. The implant-free, outpatient treatment can be life changing for those who have suffered for years.
Through it all, Dr. Cassell takes time to ensure patients understand their diagnosis and options. “People are anxious when they’re in pain,” he said. “I talk to them like I would a family member or a friend. I explain what’s going on, show them the anatomy, and walk them through every step.”
What truly sets the Ramos Center apart, he added, is its comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach. In addition to interventional procedures, patients have access to physical therapy to rebuild strength and mobility, behavioral therapy and clinical hypnotherapy for pain-related stress, and addiction medicine support when needed.
“Our goal,” said Dr. Cassell, “is to restore function, relieve pain, and help patients get back to living their lives.”
