Empowering Women Through Self-Defense

Every day the news brings us tragic stories of vulnerable individuals being preyed upon. What does it look like to fight back and empower our mothers, sisters, and daughters in stance and stamina?

Lacie Douthitt has made answering this question her life’s mission. Her passion for educating women in self-defense was birthed through her own story of surviving domestic abuse. While pregnant and in a toxic relationship, “I hit rock bottom,” Douthitt tearfully reflects. “I lost control of my life and had no community. I was only good at doing what I was told.”

With the help of friends and family, Douthitt broke free from her abuser and took proactive steps to reclaim her voice by learning self-defense martial arts and competitive shooting.

Aiming to break the negative stigma of carrying firearms, Douthitt and her husband partner with Hog Heaven Shooting Club in Dripping Springs to lead guided firearms training courses including pistol marksmanship and concealed carry.

Self-defense is an excellent way to develop leadership skills that translate well to other challenging life situations. Women have an amazing sense of instinct and intuition, which Douthitt teaches women to harness.

“With the average woman not as strong as the average man, handguns prove to be ‘the great equalizer’ if a woman must use force to stop a crime against herself or her loved ones. Firearms are used 500,000 times/year to commit a crime and 2.5 million times/year to stop a crime.”

Now happily married with two children, Douthitt has equipped herself and continues to teach others how to defend and protect effectively.

In addition to leading courses at Hog Heaven, Douthitt teaches weekly women-only self-defense classes as co-owner of Stoic Jiu Jitsu in Dripping Springs.
