RESPONSIBLE SPRING CLEAN UP

EARTH FRIENDLY DECLUTTERING TIPS

A pile of junk starts innocently enough – you designate space in a spare bedroom, that crawl space in the basement or maybe the garage to store your seldom-used items. Soon, mixed in with the seasonal decorations, extra furniture that you no longer use, and unwanted gifts are the things that you just don’t know what to do with. Overtime, your storage space became a dumping ground. If your own a home, you know what I’m talking about.

To give you a chance to take back your extra space (And for others, to avoid ending up on an episode of the TV show “Hoarders”), we’re giving you a firm plan for cleaning out your junk. Ed Forgerty at Junk King say, "Spring is the busiest time of year for us. Clearing out a mess is a simple process once you make the decision to start."

5 TIPS FOR DECLUTTERING

1.       Be committed:  Cleaning out the junk will have to be done, either by you now or someone else later. Commit to getting your space back.

2.       Have a Plan:  Decide whether you will keep, throw or donate your items. Only keep items you will use immediately. The Prop Shop accepts most donations (Please be useable).

3.       Have Supplies Ready:  Make sure you have bags or boxes for your items. Markers and tape are helpful as are cleaning supplies for when the job is done.

4.       Be Ruthless:  If you haven’t used an item in over a year, then you likely won’t use the item in the future. Throw it or donate - no exceptions.

5.       Start!  A journey of a 1000 miles starts with a single step. Mark your calendar and work in short segments. You can do the job in multiple sessions.

DONATE THINGS LIKE

  • Clothing
  • Furniture
  • Bedding
  • Kitchenware

The Prop Shop accepts donations of clothes, furniture, bedding and kitchenware (Cookware and utensils). Your donations help over 750 active families that depend on Prop to give them a hand up. Please donate useable items only.

Junk King can help you move most anything, including large pieces of furniture, appliances, old hot tubs, mattresses, construction waste, etc., Junk King will donate useable items where appropriate and recycles waste materials where disposal is required.

What’s holding you back? You know the plan to follow, where to donate and how to dispose of items you can’t move yourself. Recognize that decluttering does more than just give you space back in your living space – by repurposing items you minimize waste in landfills and reduce the need to produce more consumer goods. Help yourself by decluttering – and the environment.
