Over the past several years, Cherry Creek North has transformed from a place to visit for shopping and dining to a place to stay for several days. Of the five hotels to pop up within the 16-block community, Halcyon was the second to open its doors, back in 2016.

“Adding hotels has been huge for the identity of Cherry Creek North,” said Halcyon Director of Sales and Marketing Candace Duran. “It’s so inspiring to be part of the maturation of the district. They make it easier to stay past 5 p.m., which keeps more people in the neighborhood and supporting area businesses.”

The area’s hotels have noticed a shift in the type of visitor since reopening doors post-pandemic lockdown. These days, room and occupancy rates in Cherry Creek North are nearing pre-pandemic levels, which is especially reassuring compared to the industry’s national recovery.

“Cherry Creek North has emerged as a premier travel destination for guests near and far,” said Nick LeMasters, CEO of the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District.

Now is the perfect time to recalibrate with a staycation at Halcyon, an independent hotel located right inside the neighborhood. Halcyon’s name, inspired by a mythical bird fabled to calm seas, shares characteristics with Kingfisher Bird—representing happiness, carefreeness and peaceful tranquility. The hotel, with a street reputation for being the ideal spot for design-lovers, features a chic, laid-back ambiance with all the indulgences of a modern, luxury hotel.

It’s easy to let go when you have access to all its amenities like the handcrafted lattes, fresh fruit and baked goods from the Kitchen Counter, which are perfect when heading out to wander the neighborhood. On the way back in, be sure to partake in the daily wine and beer happy hour offerings. In-room amenities include a record player with a small selection of vinyl, beverage cooler, yoga mat and an array of art in various media, such as sculpture, photographs and prints of paintings and more.

To round out your stay, spring for tickets to a show at The Denver Center for the Performing Arts, or pamper yourself with a spa experience at one of the many neighboring locations. Halcyon offers complimentary access to Denver Botanic Gardens and a Wellness Passport, where guests can work out at any of its Cherry Creek fitness partners for free. Partners include CorePower Yoga, SoulCycle, Barre3, TruFusion, and CLMBR (formerly Rise Nation).

Dine on-site at Local Jones, with its sophisticated yet approachable atmosphere filled with numerous locally sourced (and delicious!) menu items, or at Quality Italian, a modern take on the Italian-American steakhouse nestled inside a warm, industrial interior, serving scrumptious handmade pasta. Chat it up with the hotel staff to learn details about a cocktail club, hidden away in the basement. (Hint: You’ll need a reservation and the password to enter through the alley.) Burn off extra calories at Halcyon’s in-house fitness center, at the rooftop pool (with killer city views) or borrow equipment for nearly any seasonal outdoor activity at the hotel’s complimentary Gear Garage, offering cruiser bikes, hamboards, tennis rackets, KOTA longboards, sleds, snowshoes, boardgames, Adventure Kits, you name it. If you’ve got a good distance to travel, where on-foot or by bike doesn’t make sense, borrow one of the Piaggio scooters to take for a spin. Up on the roof, challenge friends at the hotel’s curling patch, bookings come with a bucket of beer or Topo Chico, or listen to live music.
