Restore your Body and Soul with a Pause

Taking a moment to invest in your health and wellness

Spring has officially sprung! The days are stretching longer and getting warmer, encouraging people to step outside, maybe catch their breath, and clear their minds—giving each of us a moment to pause and reflect upon the year thus far, and maybe set a few goals before summer.

Local business owner, nutritionist, and teacher Jolie Ensign encourages everyone to pause and take a few moments for themselves. She created Pause Fitness and Nutrition—your wellness hub, offering an array of classes and personalized nutrition programs. Work with Ensign to better understand your nutrition goals, and be sure to check out both yoga studios here in town. Ensign and her team want to empower you and provide the tools to make meaningful and sustainable changes to your habits and lifestyle.

“The mission is in the name,” Ensign said. “It came out of the pandemic—to pause. Whether that is to pause and move, pause to eat, pause to reflect, breathe, or be mindful. Pausing for your health and wellness.” Taking a moment to pause is crucial nowadays, as it can be difficult to set aside time for ourselves.

As mentioned above, Pause offers a variety of movement classes, ranging from basic yoga—including Slow and Fluid, Hot and Vibrant, and Restore and Recharge—to Yin Yoga and invigorating Pilates classes. Each studio has all the materials necessary for your practice, such as mats, blankets, blocks, and yoga bolsters.

Pause’s yoga studios have built-in infrared lights used for heating. Ensign explains, “Our classes use the heat, but there is no humidity. Infrared heat feels like you're being warmed by the sun. So you will get a little sweat, but you’re not drenched. You don’t feel wrecked or depleted when you’re done with a class,” leaving you feeling rejuvenated and ready for the day.

Each month, Pause offers additional workshops focusing on a multitude of topics and different practices from guest teachers. In April, there were six different workshops scheduled, including sound meditation, Bhakti Yoga, and a fertility awareness workshop.

Teaching five classes a week, Ensign has witnessed the budding of friendships firsthand—and how the classroom becomes a tight-knit community. She said, “The classes build community and support for building [better] habits.” Routinely attending classes and seeing familiar faces is refreshing. It is a great social space while focusing on your health and wellness. Being a part of this community means you are surrounded by supportive individuals whose goals may align with your own—encouraging one another to be consistent and prioritize movement in our busy lives.

This summer, Pause is launching a 90-day Summer Challenge dedicated to your wellness journey and developing your strength and resilience. From June 3 to August 31, take a combination of 45 different classes—some you may be familiar with, while others may be new. Choose between four different categories: Pilates, Yoga, Strength, and Self-care. This is a great opportunity to expand your comfort zone, work with different teachers, and try new modalities. Also, be sure to save the date and check out the Sayulita, Mexico yoga retreat in October! In February, Ensign led her first international retreat in Tulum, Mexico. She said, “The Tulum retreat was an amazing group of women that connected really well and just had a great time together, and that is what we are hoping for in Sayulita as well.” A soulful movement and reverence retreat, this unique week-long experience during Día de los Muertos celebrates Mexico’s rich culture, vibrant scenery, and delicious cuisine. Each day will begin with soulful yoga and movement practices, followed by an array of exciting activities such as market visits, therapeutic massages, snorkeling, and secret beaches.
