What do you think of when someone mentions the lake lifestyle? I think about a life lived at a slower pace, outdoor living, and time spent together with family and friends. The rhythm of a lake lifestyle feels both restorative and playful. I picture mornings that start slowly, with coffee on the dock or deck, listening to the soft waves of the lake and the birds, rather than the traffic we are so used to.
Home designer Roberth Jordan, his wife Andrea, and their son moved from Venezuela to Pottsboro in 2023 in search of the lake lifestyle. After working remotely for several years with Ceci Bates Custom Homes, Roberth was sponsored to join them in Texas. His goal is to design homes that embrace their natural surroundings, using the lake as inspiration to create peaceful spaces that encourage gatherings in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
Roberth was the first in his family to attend university, moving to the capital city to study architecture. As a child, he built cardboard homes, fueling an early passion for design. After beginning his career designing office spaces for the Herman Miller dealership in Venezuela, he shifted his focus to residential architecture, studying American building codes, preferences, and culture to tailor each home to the families who would live there.
Roberth has designed more than 150 lake homes across Alabama, Florida, Minnesota, and Texas. These homes emphasize generous gathering spaces, both indoors and out, with kitchens that feature multiple or oversized islands and less emphasis on bedrooms or private areas.
When designing a lake home, it is essential to position the house to manage sunlight, maximizing views while avoiding overexposure to the harsh setting sun. Thoughtful design also considers blocking strong north winds and adapting the home for year-round use, challenges that require an experienced touch. Above all, the guiding principle is the home's livability.
In recent years, many homeowners have sought to build lake homes that can also function as income properties. Features such as private pantries, storage closets, and garages for lake toys allow families to secure their personal belongings each time the home is rented. Roberth has also found that in recent years, he’s seen a growing trend of lake homes becoming primary residences, made possible by technology and remote work. More business owners and remote corporate employees are choosing to live and work full-time at the lake, enjoying the lifestyle without giving up professional continuity.
A look through Roberth’s portfolio at RoberthJordan.com reveals beautiful homes designed for Rock Creek Resort, Tanglewood, Lake Texoma, Pottsboro, and the north side of Lake Texoma at Cartwright’s Oak Hills. This spring, Roberth is opening a studio in Pottsboro to serve his home design clients and to offer interior design and home finishing services.
