Growing up, your bedroom is your space. Your space to be who you want. Your space to do what you want.

For nine-year-old Paige Armstrong, her bedroom is her safe space away from hospital stays.

Melton Design Build wanted to help grow that space.

Paige suffered from a strep infection that invaded her brain and became a life-threatening and invasive Strep A bacterial infection. Surgeons at Children’s Hospital Colorado removed a softball-sized mass from her brain, as well as a large portion of her skull.

The recovery process was long, and the recovery journey continues, but above all odds, Paige came out on top. Now a Children’s Hospital Colorado Patient Ambassador, Paige is helping other children fight infectious diseases.

There With Care, a non-profit focused on providing fundamental services to families and children during a critical health crisis, and Melton Design Build worked together to create the perfect room for Paige filled with all the things she loves.

“The team came to meet us, but more importantly, Paige, very early in the process," says Brian Armstrong, Paige's father. "They included her in every aspect in the process. Once Paige chose her theme, the installation team arrived about 3 weeks later. Everyone involved was so personable and nice. It was a full-time job to keep Paige busy so that the reveal would be a surprise."

“The Melton team wanted to give back to our community in a unique way and partnered with the amazing local organization, There With Care, to select a family to do a room makeover for,” says Heather Dieck, Melton’s Marketing Manager. “We completed a two-day full room makeover for a very special little girl and helped create a space that she can enjoy while she continues on her recovery journey.”

As the generous offer from Melton came into There With Care, their programs department knew right away that Paige and her family would be the right fit for this special makeover. Melton’s design team honed into Paige’s brave attitude and made sure it showed through in each part of the design.

“When a family has a child facing a medical crisis, they can feel very isolated, "says There With Care’s Executive Director, Paula DuPré Pesmen. "There with Care serves families by providing fundamental services with compassion and care. With Paige, we were honored when Melton offered to step in and create a comforting space for her to come home to. We’re grateful to Melton, as generous gifts like this help families feel less alone during a difficult time.”

Paige loves her new room and is finding it hard to leave. A space to grow and a space to come to life was the sole mission of both Melton Design Build and There With Care.

Though the process took just two days, for Paige, it’s a helping hand that will last a lifetime.
