Texas Legacy Florals Brings Heart and Heritage to Fort Worth

Some businesses are born from a business plan. Texas Legacy Florals was born from a calling.

"For as long as I can remember, I have been enamored by the beauty of flowers, and moved by God’s creation," says George, the founder of Fort Worth's newest floral and gift shop. "I spent weeks thinking, praying, and dreaming about opening up a flower shop because it felt like my natural calling."

After a long career in healthcare and investments, George found himself searching for something more — not just another venture, but a sense of purpose. A conversation with his son planted the seed, and what grew from it was a vision to create something meaningful for the Fort Worth community. "I never realized I was an artist," George says. "I can look at an array of flowers, and it just comes to me. Kathy helped me realize that this was a gift I wanted to share with the community."After nearly 50 years together and 46 years of marriage, flowers have always been a part of life for George and his wife, Kathy. "Kathy would be surprised if she didn't get flowers weekly," he says with a smile.

Texas Legacy Florals opened its doors in April, and the community has been welcoming them ever since.

George's family roots in Fort Worth stretch back to the 1850s, when his great-grandfather was given land in downtown Fort Worth. His grandfather held that land until 1912, when he traded it for a farm in West Texas. "We have a long tradition and legacy in this city," George says. "Fort Worth means a lot to us." That sense of history shapes everything about how the shop operates, from the curated product selection to the way customers are greeted at the door. "We want people to feel at home when they come in. We want them to feel welcome and loved."

Kathy brings her own flair to the shop, particularly when it comes to the vase collection. "Every vase is so fun, bright, cheerful," she says. "I like unique vases for the flowers George always gives to me." From animal-shaped vessels to vegetable-inspired designs sourced at market, the selection is anything but ordinary. The gift inventory follows the same philosophy. Texas Legacy Florals has exclusive partnerships with John Mark Enterprises, which sources handcrafted ribbons from India, and with Little Teddy, a line of baby blankets and infant items made in Spain. "If you can buy it down the street, we won't carry it," George says.

But for George and Kathy, the carefully chosen inventory is just one expression of a deeper commitment to the community they've called home for decades. Texas Legacy Florals has partnered with all three of Fort Worth's chambers of commerce — the Hispanic, Black, and Fort Worth chambers — as well as the Camp Bowie District. One of the most meaningful partnerships, though, is with local assisted living facilities and hospices. When arrangements in the shop near the end of their life, George and Kathy repurpose them into fresh bouquets for terminally ill patients. "Even in sympathy, the flowers bring comfort," George says.

That spirit of care also extends to the talented team of floral designers George and Kathy have brought together for weddings and events. Each designer was chosen not only for their artistry, but for their shared passion for creating meaningful, personal experiences. Their presence is becoming an integral part of the culture at Texas Legacy Florals, especially as the shop continues to grow its wedding and event presence across Fort Worth.

The vision doesn't stop there. George and Kathy hope to eventually grow the space into a community event center rooted in faith, beauty, and connection. "We're very close to the Lord," George says, "and we want to reach out and share community." Expansion to other Texas locations isn't off the table, but Fort Worth always comes first. "I don't ever want to lose the personality of the store," he says. It's a fitting promise from a family whose roots in this city run more than a century deep.
