What is Runway Houston?

RH is the largest fashion show in Texas. It is a production that does not target any specific demographic but attempts to present an experience that can be taken in by all. Although the fashion show aspect could be considered the main attraction, RH platforms presentations of all types and mediums beyond fashion such as sonic, art, lighting, gastro, mixology, etc.

What led you to begin Runway Houston?

I used to be a photographer shooting for various media outlets in the Houston social scene. After seeing what other productions were doing, I decided that my 31st birthday would be a fashion-themed party that would become the first RH. Initially, RH was something fun that I did once a year. After the 3rd one, it took on a life of its own and became biannual.

Why is Runway Houston important to you and the community?

The influx of designers from around the country that started presenting collections and the celebrity that came with it made me realize the impact the production had on the community. Now I see it as a responsibility (although fun) that offers opportunities to multiple people across various areas of interest.

What can you share about the designers this season?

Every designer brings something new and exciting each season. For example, we had our first streetwear collection on our runway last season. While the designers for Fall 2022 have not been revealed yet, I am very excited to unveil a specific designer I have had my eye on for a while.

How do you find new designers for this event?

I think it is essential to keep your finger on the pulse of the industry and what is current in trends and style. I often look to social media to see what the kids and influencers wear. I usually pull designers from "Project Runway" and hopefully some from "Making the Cut" soon, but nothing beats the homegrown talent we have here in our fantastic city.

Tell me about Runway Houston's Philanthropy.

The first RH was a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, and ever since, we have found various nonprofits and causes to help. Whether it is Hurricane Harvey relief, offering internships to students, collecting toys during the holidays, or making donations to no-kill animal shelters, we believe that giving back should be a part of our efforts to make an impact in the community.

How has the Houston fashion scene evolved since Runway Houston's inception?

Fashion doesn't just change from season to season; it varies from zip code to zip code. We live in Houston, the most diverse city in the US. On any given day, you can find people wearing killer styles at River Oaks District, Post Houston, China Town, Montrose, and even on the trails at Memorial Park. Social media is now a significant factor in everyone's lives; it gives everyone an outlet to express their style and, in turn, be influenced by others' styles.

What's next for the fashion world?

I think the next direction for style in fashion will push toward NFTs and the Metaverse, and we are already at work to be at the forefront of that soon here in Houston, with RH leading the way.

When is the next Runway Houston event?
Our upcoming event is on October 19th & 20th at the Post Houston. The event itself is from 6-9 pm with a runway show usually starting around 7:30 pm. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit runwayhouston.com
