It was love at first sight when Amy and Heyder Alsaffar stepped foot inside what would become Skip-A-Rock cabin in Broken Bow, Okla.
“It was a brand new cabin, just completed, when we first took a look. From the moment we saw it, we fell in love with the design and layout,” Amy says.
Now visitors are falling in love with the luxury cabin, which the Highland Village couple offers as a vacation rental.
“It is a log cabin, but has all of the features of a modern house, plus a hot tub, fire pit, playground, pool table, foosball, upscale design with bowl sinks, granite countertops, eight televisions, including one outside on the deck, and wi-fi for those who desire to stay connected,” Amy says.
The cabin, located in Hochatown/Beavers Bend area, boasts five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Four of the rooms are king suites. The fifth bedroom is a charming bunk room, situated above the game room, that sleeps six. “The bunk room is complete with three bunks, a tee-pee and a TV,” Amy says.
The popular, 800-square-foot game room and bunk space is located across the breezeway from the main house.
“The layout is important because the separate game room allows for the noise to be contained in one area, versus many cabins, where the game room is a loft overlooking the main living room,” Amy says, adding that the game room offers hours of fun for families who visit the cabin.
“Families and friends come to Broken Bow to relax and have fun. The game room is a place to kick back. You can open the garage door and have a little breeze while playing pool,” she says. The game room also includes a video game console, a foosball table and several board games. An outdoor bar and television are located on the breezeway, outside of the game room, as well.
Heyder says Skip-A-Rock is the perfect gathering spot for multiple families because it provides entertainment for the kids, along with all of the comforts of home, including private living spaces.
“Skip-A-Rock provides a great way for families to come together for a quick weekend or extended stay,” he says. “The large indoor and outdoor space provide room for everyone to gather together or each do their own thing.”
“The four king bedrooms are each their own masters with en suite bathroom. We loved this part of the layout, as many times four couples are sharing the rental cost of the cabin. Each bedroom and bath is the exact same size. No one has to call dibs on a room, and no one will feel slighted,” Amy says.
While visitors have their own, private spaces, there also are large communal areas within the cabin.
“The kitchen, dining and living areas are one, big space,” Amy says. “It’s great for the adults to mingle and visit. The kitchen has a grand island with barstools for four. Whoever is cooking can still visit and be included.” The dining table seats ten, and another bar-height table seats four. The kitchen is fully stocked with appliances and essentials, including a coffee and wine bar.
Situated on a two-acre wooded lot at the edge of a four-acre neighborhood pond, Skip-A-Rock is just as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. The cabin boasts two covered decks, outdoor dining areas and a large hot tub. The cabin also offers outdoor fun for children with a tube slide right off the deck and a playground. Families can play horseshoes, gather around the fire pit and catch lightning bugs in the evenings.
Heyder says his family has made many memories at Skip-A-Rock, including making s’mores around the fire pit, watching fireflies light up the trees and enjoying coffee each morning by the outdoor fireplace.
The surroundings are reminiscent of the mountains, Amy says, but only a short three-hour drive away.
“Broken Bow provides a landscape similar to some places in Colorado, but on a smaller scale,” Heyder says. “The Hochatown area has many local restaurants, petting zoo, and shops to add to the entertainment. The cabin is within miles to Beavers Bend State Park, which is ideal for hiking, fishing and boating. Mountain Fork River is in the area, and is great for canoeing or just floating down the river,” he says.
“Broken Bow is really growing right now. VRBO recently posted a 50% growth,” Amy says. “It’s really been a blessing for us, both for our family to enjoy and on the investment side.”
