Rising Texas country artist Sandee June is making waves with her latest single, “Hurricane,” which has become her highest-debuting song on Texas radio. The soulful country rendition of Levon Helm’s classic debuted at No. 50 on the Texas Regional Radio Report and, in just four weeks, has surged to No. 29—a testament to the song’s impact and June’s unique way of captivating her audience with her traditional country sound.

“‘Hurricane’ is such a special song to me, and I am beyond thrilled to see how well it’s resonating with fans and radio,” said June. “This song holds a deep personal connection for me, and to see it climb the charts so quickly is incredibly exciting.”

More than just a cover, “Hurricane” serves as a heartfelt tribute to June’s strong family ties to New Orleans and Galveston, places where storms have played a defining role in her family history. Her mother’s side of the family—her grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother—all hailed from New Orleans, where storytelling was a cherished tradition.

“I would sit around with them and listen to them talk. They would tell stories about ‘way back when’ and talk about the storms and what they did during the storms. My grandmother was in Galveston during Hurricane Carla in 1961. I was always so fascinated with the stories and would soak them all up. I guess I have an attachment to the storytelling of this song. It reminds me of the days sitting with these ladies,” added June.

With her signature heartfelt delivery, June brings the soul and storytelling power of generations before her into “Hurricane”—giving it new life on the Texas country scene. She is excited to be opening the Texas Regional Radio Awards show in Arlington on Monday, March 24, with a live performance of “Hurricane.”

“What an opportunity,” said June. “It’s exciting to perform among peers, and I am thrilled to get to open the show. It will be a fun night!”

About Sandee June

Independent country artist Sandee June has a way of drawing you in with her rich, soothing tone and instantly connecting you with the lyrics of a song. She’s a singer, songwriter and lifelong Texan who grew up listening to her parents’ music – Michael Martin Murphey, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, and Elton John. She admits she has classic rock in her soul, but when she sings, it always “comes out country.” Maybe that’s because time spent with her grandparents always included listening to Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn – two of her all-time music heroes. There’s no doubt you can hear the influences of these two country music icons every time Sandee June steps up to a microphone.

She released her first single, “Somewhere Between Hell and a Honky Tonk,” in 2020. To date she has released six songs, all of which have charted on all major Texas country music charts.
