Your face is your daily introduction to the world; it deserves the same care and attention as any other aspect of self-care. Just like you wouldn't neglect your haircut, dental hygiene, or a wrinkled shirt, your facial skin care should be a non-negotiable routine. It's not just about looking good; it's about feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin every day.

Welcome to the Face Space Esthetics Home Skin Care Guide, where we'll simplify the process of achieving your best skin while keeping it fun and enjoyable. Let's dive into your basic skincare routine and then explore more targeted morning and nighttime routines.

Mastering the Basics: Cleansing, Moisturizing, and SPF

Cleansing: Your journey begins with a clean canvas. A gentle cleanser removes dirt, oil, and makeup, setting the stage for all the goodness that follows. Choose one that suits your skin type, and remember, over-cleansing can strip your skin of its natural moisture barrier.

Moisturizing: Next up, hydration! A good moisturizer locks in moisture as well as protects your skin’s barrier, keeping the good stuff in and the bad stuff out. Finding a moisturizer with the right texture and weight for your skin type will prevent dryness and promote a healthy glow, without leaving behind a greasy feel.

SPF: The sun is the source of many reported skin concerns year-round, such as wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, blackheads, and let’s not forget the most preventable form of cancer— skin cancer. Broad Spectrum SPF 30 or higher is non-negotiable during the day. It's your superhero shield against UV rays. Even if the damage isn’t visible now- it can manifest in your skin years later. Trust us, your future self will thank you.

Morning Routine: Protect and Prevent

In the morning, your focus is protection. Start your day by showing your skin some love:

Antioxidant Serum or Moisturizer: Antioxidants like vitamin C and various plant extracts are like morning coffee for your skin. They fight free radicals that lead to oxidative damage, promote collagen production, and brighten your complexion. A serum or moisturizer with these ingredients is your go-to pick.

SPF 30 or Higher: Use your sunscreen, even if you're not spending the day at the beach. Sunscreen is your BFF, and it plays a vital role in protecting your skin from UV damage and early signs of aging. Don't skimp on this step! Tip: an SPF moisturizer usually delivers sufficient sun protection, while makeup with SPF typically does not.

Night Routine: Repair and Renew

At night, it's all about repair and rejuvenation. This is when your skin works its magic.

Thorough Cleansing: A deeper cleanse in the evening removes the day's impurities. Double cleansing, starting with an oil-based cleanser and following up with a bubbly water-based one, is a luxurious way to ensure a clean canvas.

Active Ingredients: Nighttime is prime time for active ingredients like retinol and exfoliating acids. These powerhouses promote skin renewal, fade fine lines, and reduce breakouts and hyperpigmentation. Start slowly with these, as they can be powerful and potentially sensitizing.

Winter Extras: During winter, when we typically experience less heat and sun exposure, consider adding more actives to your routine. Just remember as the warmer months come around, that these ingredients can make your skin sensitive to heat and sunlight. The colder months are also a great time to incorporate more hydration, by means of a hydrating serum and/or a richer moisturizer. Embrace your winter skincare routine as a cozy self-care ritual.

Now that you've mastered the basics, feel free to explore toners, serums, and eye creams to target specific concerns. With your trusty morning and night routines, your skin will be well-prepared for any adventures you throw its way.
