CFISD Student Athletes Earn Academic State Honors

Fifty-nine CFISD athletes in cross country and volleyball earned Academic All-State honors and accolades from the Texas High School Coaches Association. Bridgeland High School senior Elisa Grillo (cross country), Cy-Fair High School senior Madison Hrncir (volleyball) and Cypress Woods High School senior Kaitlyn Keneda (volleyball) garnered elite recognition, the highest possible academic recognition given by the association. The THSCA recognizes students who earn all-state honors while excelling in the following categories: grade-point average, class rank and ACT/SAT scores. 

Cy-Woods Senior Secures International Marketing Internship

Cy-Woods Senior James Darden III earned an internship with Peruvian marketing entrepreneur Aquiles Chulluncuy. The two met at an international leadership academy hosted by Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School. During the event, before an audience, James asked if the businessman would have him as an intern. Chulluncuy agreed and have since worked together on business tasks. Darden, who operates his own creative marketing agency, hopes to grow his business and take full advantage of the internship. 

School Police Department Honored at Back the Badge Lunch

School police officers and staff were honored during CFISD’s fourth annual Back the Badge luncheon. The event has become a yearly tradition between the district’s police and transportation departments to keep open lines of communication between officers and district staff. The district’s facilities and construction, operations, nutrition services and general administration departments also participated. Officers enjoyed a barbecue lunch catered by Andy’s Kitchen as well as prizes and gifts donated by local businesses.

Bridgeland Students and VLK Architects Clinch Top Awards at CANstruction Event

Bridgeland High School students along with their mentors from VLK Architects received top awards at the 25th Annual CANstruction Houston Competition and Exhibition. The team received the People’s Choice, Most Cans, and Best Meal awards. The CANstruction event pairs architecture, engineering, and construction professionals with students on a design project using canned goods. All proceeds are donated to the Houston Area Food Bank. “Good Night Hunger” was the Bridgeland team’s structure which featured more than 6,900 taco-inspired canned food items. The items were creatively arranged to recreate the story behind Vincent Van Gogh’s painting, Starry Night.

Bridgeland High Volleyball Team Ends Season as State Semifinalist 

The Bridgeland High School volleyball team finished its 2021 season as state semifinalist after falling to San Antonio Brandeis in the UIL Class 6A state semifinal in November. Bridgeland was narrowly defeated by San Antonio Brandeis in four sets. The Bears finished the season with a 39-12 overall record. The 2021 season marked Bridgeland’s first trip to the state tournament. 

Bridgeland HS football Closes Season as Regional Finalist

Bridgeland High School’s football team closed the season with an 11-3 record and an advance to the regional final for the first time in program history. The team faced off against Tomball High School for the Class 6A Division II playoff bracket, but were defeated in December. The Bridgeland team played its first varsity season in 2018 and have advanced to the playoffs the last three seasons, including 2020’s appearance in the Region II semifinals.
