Even with the most dedicated diet and exercise regimen, there may still be fatty areas on our bodies that we just cannot get rid of with traditional methods. This is why so many people have turned to CoolSculpting.

“CoolSculpting is an FDA approved nonsurgical fat reducing method that freezes the fat, and when fat cells die off from being frozen, your body rids them through your lymphatic system,” says Cathleen Olson, a licensed advanced practice aesthetician since 1989 and the owner of Edina Skin Care.

After listening to her clients complain about these stubborn areas of their bodies, she decided to add CoolSculpting to the clinic’s list of services six years ago. Recently, Edina Skin Care upgraded its equipment.

“CoolSculpting Elite is the third generation model with the latest technology,” says aesthetician and master CoolSculptor, Peg McCartan. “The applicators are larger and shaped in a way that draws the most tissue in for the best result.” And, because there are four applicators, multiple areas can be done simultaneously, which saves time.

She adds, “Most CoolSculpting sessions last around three hours to treat the whole abdomen area and the flanks. Times vary based on how many cycles we’re using for treatment.” Most people go through at least two treatments per area.

As a master CoolSculptor, Peg also trains others on how to use the technology. “It’s so important to have an experienced practitioner,” she says. “The results are permanent, so it must be done right the first time. I’ve gone through Masters training and am an Allergan Medical Institute CoolSculpting trainer for other Master classes.”

Before beginning treatment, Edina Skin Care ensures that their clients are good candidates. “During our complimentary consultations, we check the client’s medical history to make sure it will be safe for them, go over the technology involved and how the session will proceed on the day of treatment,” says Peg. “We then look at the area or areas the client is interested in treating, and come up with the plan of action and give them a firm price for the session.”

Edina Skin Care is associated with MMK Plastic Surgery and is located within the same office. Having doctors on site is another safeguard to ensure patients can safely undergo treatments.

“Let's say someone had a hernia and they want to do the CoolSculpting in that area,” says Cathleen. “We have a doctor right here to come in, check out the patient, and make sure everything’s fine to move forward. That's so important. I always play it safe with my clients.”

After being assessed that they’re good candidates for the procedure, including for example, having what she calls “squeezable fat” and being close to their ideal weight, CoolSculpting clients start to see results in six to 12 weeks. “We see people at six weeks to evaluate and take pictures, so they can compare the before and after,” she says.

When it comes to treating areas with CoolSculpting, Cathleen explains that they’ve changed their way of thinking. “Now, instead of spreading out the treatments all over the body, we want to treat one area to completion. Those are the clients that are the happiest.”

Some of the most requested areas for CoolSculpting are the inner and outer thighs, the chin, and abs. Other areas of the torso are also frequently done. And there’s no pain involved; she says there might be some tingling, but that’s it.

“After we get past the first six minutes the area is numb, so it’s fairly comfortable,” says Peg. “We have a lovely CoolSculpting suite and make each patient comfortable and happy with pillows, blankets and treats.”

Cathleen is a charter member, board member and past president of the Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialists, a national organization for professionals seeking further education and the development of safe, quality skin care. In addition to CoolSculpting, Edina Skin Care offers many other services for healthy skin and a beautiful body.

There’s SkinPen, which she says is the only FDA-approved micro-needling device, and a variety of laser treatments. The clinic was actually the first in the state to use OPUS, a laser that uses radio frequency and helps draw plasma from the air, which lifts and tones the skin. It has very little downtime; clients are able to wear makeup the very next day.

Edina Skin Care also offers Illuminize Peel, HydraFacial, DiamondGlow treatments, laser hair removal, waxing, and lash and brow grooming.

One of Cathleen’s passions is oncology skin care. She says that people going through chemo or radiation have a host of problems, such as dry skin and rashes. She meticulously studied a variety of ingredients and brought in a product line just for clients going through cancer treatments.

The clinic has many other medical skin care products for all clients to use at home as well, including anti-aging, preventative and corrective products.
