Seafair: Then and Now

The Unofficial Puget Sound Holiday, Seafair, Celebrates Its 72nd Year

Since 1950, Seafair has been known as an iconic Pacific Northwest tradition. The first Seafair featured parades, boat races, amateur athletic events, royalty, and a number of community festivals. It all began as a plan to celebrate Seattle’s centennial in 1951-52, but ultimately was designed to attract tourists and showcase marine events in keeping with Seattle’s boast as the “boating capital of the world.”  That first Seafair was deemed a success and today Seafair continues to be the largest boating event, air show, and festival all rolled into one.  To be enjoyed by boat or on land, fans love the Boeing Seafair Air Show featuring the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, and cheering on the Miss HomeStreet racing at over 220 MPH in the HomeStreet Bank Cup.  This years Seafair Weekend Festival falls on August 5-7, and is the culmination of the summer-long Seafair Celebration.  For tickets or more information visit www.seafair.org
