Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina

Since 1981 Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (SHFBM), a Charlotte based non-profit organization, has been serving and striving through education, advocacy and partnerships to eliminate hunger by the solicitation and distribution of food.

Who They Are And What They Do

The organization provides a regional distribution warehouse in Charlotte with branches in NC and SC that supply food and grocery items to charitable agencies that assist people in need.  They also provide training, technical assistance and hunger education to their partner agencies.

Areas Served and Services Provided 

Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina serves 14 counties in NC including Mecklenburg and the counties surrounding Charlotte such as Gaston and Union along with 10 counties in SC including Lancaster and York counties.  SHFBM provides food for over 800 partner agencies including soup kitchens like Urban Ministries, emergency pantries like Loaves and 
Fishes, homeless shelters like Center of Hope, senior programs and low-income daycare centers.

In fiscal year 2020-2021 Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina distributed over 82 million pounds of food and household items throughout their 24 county service region of which more than 48 million pounds were fresh produce, meat and dairy.  Approximately 75% of the food they distributed was donated, 4% was purchased and approximately 21% of the food came from government commodities.  

Food is distributed from the main warehouse in Charlotte and flows through branches in NC and SC.  SHFBM loves providing for kids, seniors, families, veterans and pets.
