After owning homes in three local lake communities and spending the last six years of her real estate business focusing on waterfront property, Renee Amey has become an expert in what these communities have to offer.
With five lake communities in Lee’s Summit—Raintree, Winnebago, Lakewood, Lotawana and Woodland Shores—Amey says she is always surprised that many are still unfamiliar with local lake life.
"I started in real estate 16 years ago, and I gravitated to selling lake properties from the beginning,” Amey says. “Each home is unique in the lake communities as you rarely find a duplicate home, and they offer the opportunity to buy into a ‘lifestyle’ rather than just a home.”
Amey and her team, Lindsi Davis and Erin Slocum, find unique marketing opportunities, including having a booth at the Kansas City Boat Show where they get to know the customers and inform them about available properties. Additionally, she said her team often takes clients on boat tours to help them get a feel for the communities, and they host group open houses on Sundays that serve as opportunities for clients to see the properties.
“My team has a passion for selling these custom homes, and we make sure the discerning buyer who looks at these properties understands all the amenities and possibilities for entertainment," Amey says. "Our lake home buyers love a larger shoreline and opportunities to add beautiful landscaping, docks and pools to the property. Our mission is to find that lake-enthusiast buyer or that buyer who is looking for something ‘extra’ on their property.”

Raintree provides a place for families who want to ski or wakeboard, and the community pool is a wonderful place for kids and swim meets.

Lakewood offers many amenities including sailing, kayaking, golfing and even a beach.

Winnebago has private docks, skiing, wakeboarding and a yacht club for dining and entertainment. It has also recently expanded with a new dam and larger lake.

Lotawana is the largest lake that used to be a lake cottage subdivision of summer homes, but it has transformed into a year-round destination with newer homes replacing older ones. It also has a yacht club and offers private docks, skiing and wakeboarding.

Woodland Shores is a newer subdivision that allows for skiing and fast-boat water activity around Prairie Lee Lake, a public lake near Legacy Park that is slightly smaller than the others.
