Serving Beyond the Uniform

A veteran’s mission to strengthen community, honor service, and build legacies

Rob Cordray’s path toward his legacy started as a young child, surrounded by patriotic military memorabilia. Both his father and grandfather proudly served in the military, making Rob’s decision to join the military a natural evolution of his family’s heritage.

Now a decorated Army veteran, Rob decided after 30 years of service to pour into the community he loves. “I decided I wanted to serve the people I served with,” he said. Rob took the reins in 2023 as Chapter Captain of Omaha's chapter of Team Red, White & Blue, a nationwide non-profit that helps veterans lead healthier lives through fitness events designed to improve their physical and emotional wellness.

“Rob transformed our chapter from a dwindling community to a thriving one,” said Tamsen Butler, military veteran and Team RWB member. “Before he came along, the chapter was pretty much gasping for air, but after he took over a couple of years ago, our chapter became one of the fastest growing in the country.”

Rob’s thoughtful leadership was recognized by Team RWB, and in 2024 he accepted the role of Nebraska State Coordinator, a role designated for strong leaders with a true passion for helping veterans.

Team RWB and its mission are personal to Rob.

"During my career, I lost many very close colleagues who succumbed to mental health challenges and PTSD," he said. "I felt horrible for what they must have been going through, and even more so for their families."

With that in mind, Rob puts his heart and soul into events that raise awareness and combat the risk factors of mental health issues plaguing veterans. He recently participated in the 50-Mile March, which is a 22-hour ruck from Lincoln to Omaha. Rob said the 50-Mile March was created initially to bring attention to the homeless veterans’ issues, but has now expanded to include mental health issues and other needs endemic to the veteran community.

It is no surprise that Rob’s professional life also revolves around helping others. Much like he has preserved his family’s legacy of military service, Rob helps others preserve their legacies through his services as an Edward Jones financial advisor. He focuses on military members, veterans, first responders, healthcare providers, educators, and other service-oriented vocations.

“I love serving those who serve others,” he said.

Rob said he feels a solemn responsibility when it comes to advising someone regarding their hard-earned money.

“It’s come full circle,” he said. “My military career prepared me for the pressure of this vocation, and for the scope of impact my role can have in families' lives. So, when people ask me how long I’ve been in the industry, and they want to know if they can trust me, I totally understand and respect the questions. I invite them to sit down, and I say, ‘let me tell you my story.’”

Rob’s story resonates with people who serve others because they understand that building a legacy isn’t just about money; it’s about genuine relationships and their impact on those around them. Rob is well-versed in guiding people onto their unique path towards the legacy they want.
