Founded in 2023, Poolboy has quickly become a Boulder staple for local parties, weddings, corporate events, anniversaries, and more! Their cocktail bar, Jungle, is also a favorite amongst Boulderites for its tropical splendor. Krissy Kenney, Poolboy’s event manager, reminisces on the beginning stages of the company: “The inspiration behind Poolboy came from the fun we were having offering buyouts for Jungle… With the buyouts, we were able to offer groups looking to celebrate our unique vibe, plus our tropical beverages and casual, tasty bar food. It felt like a really fun way to bring people together in that way. We are all about hospitality and creating experiences for our guests, and it started to feel like it was time for us to go beyond our little bar on 10th street.” With that, a new business was concocted (shaken, of course, not stirred).
Right in the middle of the country, desolate of fresh water or salty waves, Colorado is notorious for its dry climate. Poolboy’s cocktails are a refreshing getaway to cabana heaven. Just because you are in the Rocky Mountains does not mean you can’t turn the clock to island time! “It's the same feeling taking a vacation gives you, but you don't need to buy a flight to get there,” elaborates Krissy on this sense of cocktail wanderlust. “I think Poolboy wants to give people that escape by creating that vacation, that pool party, that night out you've been daydreaming of.”
The community established from making drinks for family, friends, and strangers is what matters above all else. Within the simple exchange of making someone a drink hides an essence of understanding, respect, and shared experience. “I think anyone who enjoys working in the catering or restaurant industry has a knack and a love for creating experiences,” says Krissy. “Taking those skills and being able to help others create that special night for their loved ones is the best part. We always leave events feeling like we were a part of a great night and a fun memory.
