Purpose and Mission
Gentlemen, consider these questions: What does it mean to be a man? A good man? A successful man? Whether or not you think these questions are important is irrelevant- they’re somewhere in our head, either screaming in the foreground or lurking quietly, patiently in the background.
Purpose and mission are inherent needs of men; if we don’t have them, we will consciously or unconsciously seek to satisfy them, either productively or destructively. Perhaps the “mid-life crisis” is the manifestation of either ignoring these fundamental questions or ineffectively trying to answer them.
As a group, we’re notoriously hesitant to talk openly about these things, and even more so to share our failures or doubts along the way. If we hope to be successful, our chances will improve if we seek out allies within our ranks, overcome our hesitance to be open and vulnerable, and add effective conversation tools to our skillset. We may have better results if we look at these things as strengths rather than weaknesses.
Our quality of life, and that of those we care about, depends on our ability to navigate the quest for answers productively. Let’s unite in the pursuit of our common goal.
