Shine Acupuncture and Wellness is a locally-owned and operated Northeast Ohio business that specializes in acupuncture, massage and cupping. Shine is owned by Medina local, Shannon Caperton, who became inspired her to get her Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine after witnessing the power of this type of medicine.
Shannon and her team of first-rate acupuncturists and licensed massage therapists, pride themselves in providing their clientele with positive effects on the nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular system and digestive system.
"Acupuncture is something that can relieve various symptoms such as chronic and acute pain, tendonitis, golfers elbow, reproductive disorders, psychological and emotional disorders, sciatica and more," Shannon says.
Acupuncture works by stimulating the body’s ability to heal itself. When the needles are inserted, the stimulation produces a message that signals the brain to release neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, just to name a few. These chemicals help to return your body to its natural state, acting to reduce feelings of pain, put your digestive system in a state of rest and more.
A typical acupuncture treatment at Shine lasts around one hour. The number of needles and the length of time they remain in place are unique to each individual and based on his or her needs. Although people often associate pain with needles, acupuncture causes very little to no discomfort. In fact, because the needles cause an endorphin release, many people experience an uplifted mood.
In addition to acupuncture, Shine offers cupping and massage services. Shannon explains, "Massage is a new service for us but all of our masseuses have over 10 years of experience. We focus on therapeutic massage – targeting pain relief. We don't offer couples massage, but couples are very welcome to try our acupuncture service! Cupping is a great service to add to a massage or acupuncture session. It does not require a lot of additional time and can work to enhance the benefits of massage or acupuncture."
Shine currently has two locations – one in Medina and one in Westlake. Recently, they celebrated the relocation of their Medina site, transitioning from their previous location at 805 E. Washington Street to their new location at 125 N Elmwood St. Medina, OH 44256.
